I agree if we are talking about adults. Everybody likes to watch kids open their gifts though.

I’ll admit, if exchanging presents it always strikes me odd if the person has no interest in opening it

I really don't get adults, giving gifts to each other. I would rather be able to spend more for the kids gifts. Adults can get shite for themselves.

well sure. But kids generally won't fake liking a present though. The reaction of an adult opening a present is very predicable.

Isn’t this one of those Japanese cultural things - that they won’t open gifts in front of each other? That the act of giving the gift is what you show gratitude for, not the actual gift itself.
I would be perfectly fine with this, but I’m also not such of a curmudgeon that I’m going to complain about opening my gifts either.
