So in a kind of related sort of way, is it acceptable to shoot whiskey? I mean the super expensive bourbon kind. I typically drink good bourbon over ice and for football/camp kick fires I will add Diet Coke but I got literally crucified by my buddies for shooting some very expensive bourbon a few years ago after a big game. I thought it was a legit special occasion reason but it’s like they will not leave me alone if they bring the high end good stuff to camp.
Whisky, like Jack Daniel’s for example, are fine for taking shots. Bourbons though should be savored in a proper drink.

I'd drink it. FWIW, you can like whiskey and like cocktails. Personally, i prefer my bourbon straight with a little ice. But i'm not above a smoked old fashioned or whatever this is.
ETA: i didn't watch to see him add coke. Not a fan. Not a fan of Jack either, to be honest.
People who bitch about what someone is doing in the comfort of their own home shouldn't be posting on the interwebs, but here you are.

Similar to people who put a bunch of shite in coffee, you don’t actually like it or you wouldn’t bother doing so much extra stuff to it IMO
Again, who cares? What does it bother you? I don't like a bunch of shite in my coffee either, but i don't care if my wife does. I prefer my cappucinno's bare bones.

Something I've thought I would never see written...

This. I love when people go above and beyond with their hobbies/food. Now the coke part, is a non-starter, but everything else about the drink (except the shitty JD) i would try. Though i'm mostly a straight bourbon drinker.
Personally, i get into cooking/brewing/alcohol/cigars and consider it a hobby. I like to figure out how to get the most flavor or the most of an experience as i can at home. These days, going out to eat is more trouble (and expense) than it's worth. So I make my home my food lab.

A regular bottle of Woodford is leaps and bounds better than Jack.

Yes, and not even close. Hell, Buffalo Trace for $24.00 is leaps and bounds better than Jack..

There are good whiskey cocktails, this is coming from someone who drinks neat whiskey 9/10 times.
But that doesn’t appear to be a good whiskey cocktail

Rum + coke >>> jack + coke

No
I would be pretty shocked (and potentially annoyed) if I shared an expensive pour with someone and they just knocked it back like it was a shot of Jack

Jack Daniels tastes like something that squirted out of a hobos a-hole.

I think adding the coke at the end is the worst part.

Agree.
A correct old-fashioned is excellent.
You can mudle a slim piece of orange peel,a small cube of brown cane sugar, add some Angistora bitters, one Luxardo cherry with a double-shot of Woodford and a big cube.
Perfect old-fashioned.

People who drink Jack Daniel’s don’t know whiskey

Yep, that is pretty much what I did and that is indeed the reaction I received. I hear about it quite frequently when bourbon shows up at the camp, but my counter was it because it was in celebration of a 4th and 36 TD to beat your biggest rival.
