IMO, if you drive in a circle forwards or backwards, the circle is the same right?
Usually no. That's what thr issue is.
It isn't feet different in diameter, it would be feet different in circumference.
In a front wheel drive car, the inside rear wheel in a reverse uturn will almost remain stationary. Not possible when going forward.

When backed into a spot you can turn your wheels almost immediately upon leaving the spot.
When pulled in, you have to wait until the entire length of the truck is out of the spot before you can turned the wheel. If you turn them any sooner you will hit the car next to you.

When you back into a space, you must first pass it, so you can see into the space to ensure it is clear. When pulling out of the space (rather than backing out) you have less visibility issues and can see pedestrians/traffic easier.

It's a safety issue. It is safer to pull forward out of a parking spot than to back out of one, due to visibility.
Why do you refuse to do this? Why are you putting yourself and people around you in an unsafe situation?

my ~EXPENSIVE GERMAN CAR~ has backup lines that move with the steering wheel in the backup camera
it's easier to back it into spots than actually pull in forward and scrape the frick out of my bumper

OP knows how to deliver with a theead....wow, 8 pages on car/truck parking etiquette. Backing up to park your vehicle is perfectly acceptable.

Dont worry about it, I always pull in and drive through to the spot on the other side but I make sure I leave my tail end hanging over the line and I also make sure that my driver's side tires are either on or over the line into the spot next to me. I hope youre happy.

I know I've got it. Turn your wheel all of the way to one side. Go backwards. Now put it in drive and go forward. What changes? You can't turn tighter than your wheels/rack/box let you

Soooo.... do you also get mad when I back out of the spot I had pulled forward into? I still block the same vehicles that would have wanted to go around me if I had back into the spot.

Sorry. But you obviously don't. Go back to the luggage cart turning example and try again. I did think your nomenclature of pivot point was more accurate than turning radius.

You must be a spoiled brat to get so upset about someone backing into a parking space.

bullshite. It's not reinforced during driver's ed so why is it all of a sudden such a safety precaution?
There's a lot to be learned about driving after "Driver's Ed." A 15 year old can only absorb so much.
Backing first allows the driver to control the "interesection" as opposed to someone speeding through the parking to dash behind him as he's backing out.
The driver also can see what is happening immediately before backing as opposed to looking, then getting in vehicle, starting, shifting, etc and then backing over a child.

Having a backup camera makes backing in obsolete

Is it "safer?" Probably not considering that you have to often back between two cars, so rather than having a wide open lane to back out into, you're working w/ a tighter space.
The safety argument is based on backing out of spot into an area where pedestrian and moving cars are more likely to be. Not about dinging your doors.
quote:
Basically, it's not safer, it all comes down to paying attention.
Well, several safety experts disagree. But carry on.
