It's the sign of a narcissist.

That as well as a sign that they are not used to having any power over anyone so they live out their fantasy of having power on wait staff.

I don't know how they are oblivious to the fact that when they send back food the cooks have all the power.

I’m a Sous chef at a fine dining restaurant on the north shore. I’ve worked some shitty places on my come up and I’ve never seen anyone sell food that has hit the floor or frick with food in any way. If someone orders a well done whatever with whatever on it, I’m gonna make it the best bullshite plate they’ve ever had. That’s how all real cooks are built.
Same. I have never seen food fricked with in any kitchen I've worked in. Ever. It's not even joked about and I would, at minimum, send a cook home just for doing that. If I ever saw anyone actually frick with someones food I'd do my best to make sure they would't be able to work a lemonade stand in my town after that.

I can't vouch for fast food or places like Applebee's, but you shouldn't fear sending food back if you're at any halfway decent place. I'll send back food myself if it's incorrect with no fear of it being fricked with.

I have a buddy that complains non stop if his tea runs out, even though he just chugged the drink. I told him to quit acting like a bitch, but he doesn't care. I just quit meeting him for a bite because it's embarrassing and the waitress doesn't deserve to be treated that way.

Totally agree with you but when i order medium and get well done or bloody....
If you order a medium and get bloody and anyone in the place is even remotely difficult or unhelpful, you should leave immediately, and never come back, because that place is employing literal clowns, in makeup, and squirting flowers pinned to their lapels, to cook your food, because that's the easiest fix in the world.

And with overcooked, yeah, it sucks to waste meat, but your order is demonstrably, visually, incorrect. That's not the same as sending it back for being "visually unappealing" or something (which also wouldn't get your food fricked with at any decent place).

If I distrusted a place, to the point that I worried their staff would rub my food on their nuts, in a case where I was clearly justified and correct, I wouldn't eat there at all. Because a place with a kitchen like that has already fricked your food up, 12 ways from Sunday, and in far more hazardous ways, before you even walked in the door. You don't trust them to not jizz in your Alfredo but you do trust them to follow basic food handling and sanitation procedures?

Which is also why I don't eat fast food.

Scruffy’s MIL and BIL are notorious for sending everything back.

The BIL sends back martinis if they aren’t cold enough.

It gets to the point where we brought it up since it was getting embarrassing.

I have never sent anything back.

On that note, there was a restaurant in Japan that employs the elderly with memory issues as waiters that I wanted to try.

It was called the Restaurant of Mistaken Orders.

I rarely send food back. I did recently but it was clear the kitchen was having issues (forgot appetizers, drinks took awhile, food coming out at separate times). Prime rib sandwich and it was cold with cold au jus.

People get really uppity at restaurants, especially with service.

omewhat long therapeutic rant. Don't read if not interested. I'll relate one particularly egregious incident. It was on Valentine's Day and she had moved in with me only a few days previously. I made 7:00 pm reservations at my favorite restaurant (she was from out of town and had no preference). She could not (or actually, did not) get ready on time so we missed the reservation, but the maître d was able to get us a table for 8:30 pm. After we were seated at the table, she asked me if I had ever taken "that woman" to this restaurant. She was referring to a lady I had been in a previous relationship. I told her I had many times. She announced she was somewhat insulted that I would bring her to the same place. We let that pass and studied the menu. She said she didn't see anything she liked and that I was to order for her. My favorite was shrimp and grits so I ordered that for us both. She took one bite and said she couldn't eat it, that it was too spicy. The waiter took it back to rinse the shrimp. She was not satisfied, saying it was still too spicy and that it could cause damage to her stomach. The manager came to our table and apologized, didn't charge for her shrimp and grits and gave her a complimentary dessert. Of course, I never got back to that restaurant until I was able to rid myself of that crazy woman. My new wife loves that restaurant.

How could you marry someone like this? She must've been doing things to you in the sack no one had ever done. It wouldn't have taken me long to told someone like that to go kick rocks or pound sand.

I can see it a high end fine dining place...and if one of those has been in business long they probably get it right more often than not anyway. I can't see it in most places like chains and fast food places...they are what they are. If you are going to eat at Red Lobster you get what you get....if it ain't what you expected you had unrealistic expectations. If I am paying $300 for dinner for 2 people I expect it to be correct. If I am spending $100 it is what it is.....if it fails to meet expectations they were simply too high to begin with....

Only thing I ever sent back was a martini... It had a fruit fly in it.

That's a legit reason. But even then, some people will just scoop it out and keep drinking.

I don't get this behavior. If you're that picky you probably should just cook for yourself. The only time I send food back is if it's a really improperly cooked steak....which ruins it.

Ha, sounds just like a friend of mine. Starts looking around and making shrugging gestures and huffing and such if his tea isn't refilled as soon as he chugs.
