Some people just like meeting others. It’s a good way to get recommendations for places to eat and go near where you’re staying.

I did it last year in Omaha. It was a room for $50 a night. Anything else was booked and I was by myself. It worked out well and they were really nice. Even watched game 7 of the nba finals with them.

We stayed at many AirBnb over the years, sometimes part of a shared property. Have stayed at a few guest house of big homes in the mountains or in Seattle we stayed in the "basement "of a three story mansion overlooking Portage Bay. Never saw any of the owners but did text them.

We have never stayed in a AirBnb with other people in the same unit, but there are plenty of people renting out their very nice second homes for week.

Just have to research as they vary and you can get some fabulous units in great location. For example, I soon head off to a cabin near Crater Lake!

my wife rented a room while in grad school. it was a couple who had 2 extra rooms upstairs and needed extra cash. turned out way cheaper than trying to get in a short term apartment lease

Have stayed in a different house/pool house/above garage apartment on the same property, but never in the same house as the host.

My lady and I did this in NOLA once. The wife made us breakfast and, later, opened their home bar, and had baked snacks set out around the clock. She was an exemplary hostess.

I also bonded with their senior golden retriever, who would lay up against our door until I let him in to curl up and go to sleep.

An excellent experience.

Have you ever been to Nantucket? There are very few hotels. Most people rent a room in a private residence. It has been that way many decades before there was Air B&B.

Why? Just curious, really. My neighbor rents out a room and it stays booked. Why would anyone want to stay in a room in someone else’s house while that family is actively living there and at home?
Help me understand. For the price, an acceptable hotel room isn’t that much more if at all more.
Is it a liberal thing? Wanting to experience “community” or some shite? I just don’t get it I guess.

I stayed in a room in an occupied house once because there wasn't much else available. It was a little awkward, but it wasn't but $30 or so. I'm not very sociable, so maybe it wouldn't be that bad for someone that is more socially inclined. I might would do it again if the price was right and/or there wasn't much else available.

Wasn’t my idea but I did one time with someone else and it was alright. I watched one of the 2016 Cubs World Series games in the living room with the owner of the house and her boyfriend. Sounds like the start of a good story.

It is if you are a socially awkward weirdo.

If not, it’s fine.
