Advocate article from 2016 say 19% of Louisiana is on food stamps

I am willing to bet that number is closer to 30%. It is a disgrace how many people have them in LA.

This can't surprise any LA residents, right?

Can’t you purchase boiled seafood on SNAP cards?

How do they still not know you can’t get some items with food cards? Had a lady try to buy bacon, honey buns, and Miller high life with the card.

They should go back to using actual stamps instead of the debit card. It shouldnt be convenient to mooch. It should be embarrassing. Furthermore, it should be staples like bread, milk, wheat, beans, rice, etc picked up at a food bank or distribution center. They have completely normalized life of the government dole.

What infuriates me the most is somebody buying groceries at the gas station on EBT, then busting out a wad of cash to buy cigs and booze.

So how long have you been on food stamps?

I've seen people buy boiled crawfish at the seafood store on Coursey with EBT.

It has to be damn near unconstitutional not to allow the purchase of bacon. I do believe the right to bacon is somewhere in the Bill of Rights. Maybe in the fine print at the bottom.

I had to read a pamphlet and take a quiz to train on how to accept food stamps and make change. One of the multiple choice questions was something like:

A customer gives you a $10 stamp for a $6 item, but you do not have enough $1 stamps in your register to make change. You should:

A. Decline the sale.

B. Discreetly ask a coworker or manager for enough stamps to make change.

C. Make change with dollar bills.

D. Yell out "Food stamps!" to get the manager's attention.

I'm guessing you would go with D.

I would go with B, but I would turn on the blinking "manager" register light to do so. The stigma should be subtle and felt by the person using the stamps. Too much would make their anger toward you overshadow the feeling of inadequacy and shame they should feel in their heart.

Is this the OT's first "I work at Dollar General" brag thread? I'm honored to be present for this landmark event.

Umm. No

That’s my tax dollars. We could be fixing the roads, or doing something else with that money that actually makes sense. We’d be better off burning this money.

If he's not older than 20-25, good for him.

If not, he's made bad decisions.

When Katrina hit, me and some friends went and got some food from a shelter in Texas. The lady there told us we could get Texas food stamps as evacuees.
We didn't need them, but being 24 year olds now out of work and cut off from parents we took it.
After getting home, and getting high paying hurricane related jobs we decided to throw a party. We went and bought only lobsters and filet tenderloins from Sav a Center. The cashier didn't even want to ring us up, she was trying to guilt shame us.
Anyway, we had a huge surf and turf party paid for by Texas Taxpayers.
Good times.

Idk
I pay for my stuff out of my checking account.
Wouldn’t trade spots with these people for anything.
