I confess that I did exactly this at the Love’s Lobdell I-10 location on Saturday about 1030 am. I will say an Act of Contrition and three Hail Marys.

Only a problem if it's a busy gas station. I leave the vehicle in front of the pump often at slow stations. If it's an interstate hot spot then I pull forward.

I hate it when they do it to get food or personal things
what if they are getting food and prepaying for gas ?
would you instead have them fill up at the pump, start the car, drive forward into a parking space, then go in for a 2nd transaction to get food?

I never do if I'm not getting gas, and it bit me on the arse a couple weeks ago. I parked off to the side, with no cover from the awning. It was cloudy, but not raining. There were four of five people in line, so the wait took a bit. I was next in line when the bottom fell out and it came an absolute deluge. The storm just sat. After standing under the awning for five minutes or so watching, I finally said, "frick it" and made a run for it. I nigh on drowned! Not really, but I was soaked to the bone.
I really wish I had parked at the pumps.

And to answer this question, not returning shopping carts at the grocery store.

Yeah, the same piece of shite that does that, but leaves rap music blaring for all to endure, including small kids.

This. If the place is full, or close to it, it's a dick move. If there's only a small handful of pumps occupied (or a small percentage of the overall number), it's no big deal.
It's pretty easy to figure out.

I don't have a problem with it as long as they actually used the pump.
Its the gasoline vehichles that pull into a station with 10 empty pumps and choose to park next to the only pump with diesel on it that pisses me off.

completely situationally dependent. if it's crowded and there are people waiting on pumps, then to do that is definitely inconsiderate. if there are tons of pumps, who cares

The vast vast majority of people do this.

I normally won't do it but a lot of convenience stores around us only have a couple of parking spaces and the pumps. I never do it if I am not buying gas but I will run into the store and get a drink while the pump is on. A circle K close to me had gas for $2.59 a gallon (card) or 2.49 a gallon with their perks deal Friday....it was a madhouse around that one and folks were chewing asses out for doing it at that one....to the point I figured a fight was going to break out if not shooting....by Saturday morning every station in town was at or near the same price but Friday afternoon it was .25 cheaper than anywhere in town....

I do that because my truck is big and it’s easier to park at the pump. Bonus points because truck is diesel and I couldn’t fill up there even if I decided I wanted fuel.

How the frick am I supposed to blow my rent money on beer, smokes, Big Gulps and lottery tickets if I don't go inside? How am I supposed to bitch about being poor if I don't spend my rent money on beer, smokes, Big Gulps and lottery tickets?
You need to get your priorities straight, sir!

That’s why there’s lots of pumps. How many times have you even seen EVERY SINGLE PUMP occupied?
