People who moved overseas but then decided to move back, why?

I saw a couple posts this morning about people who moved to Thailand, but then moved back.
I'm not talking about military or forced job transfer. I'm asking the people who decided to make a life in a foreign country, but then decided to move back to the States, what happened to change your mind?
Food, safety, healthcare, boredom? What didn't live up to your expectations?

I'd imagine family concerns would be a popular response

from my experiences, they get tired of spending all of their free time and money on coming back to see family/friends

Not sure, but I will say it is possible that everyone has a different reason.. Or that its not one simple answer.

Most people who move abroad don’t intend to stay permanently. Japan lived up to and exceeded my expectations. And then I came home. Some day I will probably move to Thailand or Vietnam for a year or two but when they plant my body in the earth it’s probably going to be here .

Ten years ago, I was tempted to move to Nicaragua for several reasons, mostly because at the time I was in my mid-30's, no children, and my mindset was somewhere else. My reason was in lieu of working 45-50 hours a week in the USA, I was probably going to work 32 hours a week over there, party more (and cheaper), have housekeeping and find much cheaper real estate than the U.S. In other words, bigger house, less rent/mortgage.
Then I started having second thoughts about job security (and security overall) so there it went my idea. But I guess most people move b/c of the reasons stated above. In essence, it's a pursuit for a cheaper lifestyle (and more laid back quality of life).

Been reading up on this. People who move to SE asia. Mainly, it cost more than expected. This is usually people who didnt save or cant really succeed in corporate America. They move over and teach English to get a Visa. Eventually they fall back into the same issues they had here.

Not really, unless you go to Cuba or Haiti, but most countries do have beautiful places around. And yes, I guess location has a lot to do.
Unless you refer as shithole as job wise, or lack thereof.

Based on your actual experience or are you simply making an assumption?

Now that we're here in Germany again,
Are you in Berlin? I stayed at Charlottenburg several years (visiting) and was amazed how beautiful it was. And the Germans were very friendly. Food meh.

Lived abroad for about 6 years in total, in Western Europe- most of it in boom times Ireland.
Still, the standard and quality of life were so comparatively low, that coming home was the only thing that made sense when we had kids.

I moved to Cuba to see what socialism was like (because according to a lot of people, socialism is a good thing) and then quickly realized socialism isn’t as good as democrats make it out to be, so I left before it became too late to leave
