Look, if you're not actively watching the opposing light and then creeping forward as soon as their light turns yellow so that you can floor it the millisecond it turns green for maximum starting speed gain then you're just not paying enough attention.

I am about to start doing this because almost everyone is looking at their phone and not paying attention.

The people behind you want to make it through that light cycle, too.

Are you retarded?
Why aren't you starting the milisecond it turns green? You should have been actively awaiting that exact moment - including knowing if the intersection had cleared, regardless of if the light is green or not.

I'll bet you're one of these dulllards who also stops your vehicle a full car length behind the white line too.

Depends on the light, IMO.

Some lights only let 2 or 3 cars go and if it turns green and the brake lights dont let up, I'm honking my arse off. Drivers are retarded now...

I've seen it happen like 3 times in my life, so it does happen but it is rare.

When I was a kid and someone would do it, my dad would casually say "frick em. They're probably from New Orleans".

Light hit green and not even a millisecond later

People are positioned to drive. By time time the light turns green, the driver processes the driver in front of them might be distracted and not paying attention then decides to blow the horn.. Its extremely unlikely it was "not even a millisecond later". There would be an at least 3 second delay.

I get frustrated sitting through multiple light cycles because the first couple cars in line don’t move when light is green or they just barely crawl through the light.

If I am waiting at the light behind you, I count to 1 then you are getting the horn.

I think the reality is that driving is not treated as an active task by like 80% of drivers. They are basically half asleep out there. For those of us that DO treat it correctly, it's easy to pull your hair out. My biggest pet peeve at present (other than the perpetual people never staying right) is people staying so far back from the line at the intersection. The reason it sucks is that it's pure loss of efficiency to the system - no way to regain it. When every car cedes .5 - 1.5 car lengths of distance at every light, it adds up.

I also hate how most drivers refuse to "control the intersection" on left turns. So instead of getting out there and being ready to go, they stay a full car length behind the line and prevent 1-3 other cars from making it.
