rule of thumb is to never heckle a good standup comedian, you can't win, they'll cut you to shreds

In 1999, I heckled an open mic comedian in the Village Country Club(not fancy) in Dallas. He got pissed and asked me if I wanted to come up there and try being a comedian.

I still feel bad and get flushed with embarrassment when I think about that dumb shite 20 years ago.
Hecklers are ASSHOLES.

So I go see Bill Burr last night, funny guy, good show....except....there were MULTIPLE "hecklers" in the crowd. I didn't pay to listen to you yell drunk, stupid comments at him while he's trying to do his show, shut the hell up and drink your 15$ beer.

There were two guys that were sitting behind me, they yelled out "MaNdElOrIaN" at least 10 times. After the first couple times of him completely ignoring it you would think maybe they would stop...nope.

"It's the Hurricanes"

"Kill the Oligarchy"

ETA: ^^^^^ Actual "heckles" from last night's show....it did not end well for them.

My favorite is when the hecklers get all pissed and butthurt when the comedian ruthlessly turns his undivided attention their way and just word-rapes them.

What’d you think would happen? The guy makes jokes for a fricking living and you’re impeding him doing his fricking job.

Good to hear. I'll be at his show tonight.

It is perfectly ok to tell them to shut the frick up because they are running the show. If they get snippy the bouncers will handle it. If you are close enough to the front, just pray they piss Burr off and watch the fireworks.

The best part about this one is that he asked him to explain and the loud mouth got nervous and shut down. Burr said, I don't even know what the frick you are talking about.

And the next day they're the pro golf tournament on the tee box yelling out, "you da man", laughing and worst of all, looking around them to see who is laughing with them.

Insecure losers.

frick the people that are with those hecklers. Like, put your woman in her place. He was so right in saying how he feels bad for whatever guy that has to deal with her.

The woman that yelled twice, second time being "It's the hurricanes", was escorted out. I walked into the lobby to pee at one point and she was on the couch. As I pass, I heard her tell some guy getting a drink at the bar, "I'm the one that shouted 'hurricane'". Dude busted out laughing at her. She then started talking about how she's seen all his specials, podcast, etc. and didn't understand why security took her out.

I so wanted to call her a dumb count and her outburst did nothing but kill his timing and joke because she couldn't keep her old, drunk arse mouth shut for 1 fricking hr.

It is definitely foolish and futile, but I don't begrudge hecklers. If that were my industry, I would pray for droves and hoards of hecklers at all my of shows.

Without hecklers, the artist has to do everything. They have to set up the jokes, play multiple roles in their narratives and keep the audiences' attention. Hecklers come in and just provide content for free. They make asses of themselves and give the performer lay-ups they can slam dunk with canned or free-style / shot from the hip counter-punches.

I have to think a lot of comedians appreciate and make good use heckler participation. If heckling started getting spotty and reliable, I would hire hecklers to show up; they're an essential part of the circle of life.
