There is a time and place for this yet some people just can’t have a conversation about anything without twisting it into a political thing.

It’s particularly worse with men. Like dude you really let that shite get in your head that bad? I’m tired of it. Liberal and conservative both. Just shut the hell up. It’s a dead horse.

This thread reminds me of Adlai Stevenson running against Eisenhower.

It really is an odd thing. Especially when it happens in louisiana like we haven't voted the same way in every election in my entire lifetime.

I'm not sure why people think voting for another D or R is gonna work out differently than the last 10 times, but apparently the next time will be different and is the most important vote yet.

It’s really annoying and I hate them. I hate them more than I hate what Biden has done to this country. Have you seen Trump’s latest tweets? They’re more random than someone randomly brining up politics.

Have a couple old friends that fell off the wagon with this. Had to basically disconnect from them.

One has been fired from two jobs in less than a year for bringing that shite to work and still doesn’t get it.

Not sure what he thinks he has to gain. Neither Trump nor Biden give two shits about him.

Well all of Louisiana’s Rs are all former Ds, why would it be different? Besides, Louisiana is a blue state that loves guns and hates abortion, otherwise it’s no different then from any other blue state, full of welfare broodmares and slow witted inbreds.
No offense.

It’s actually quite simple….it’s what candidates run on these days. 20-30+ years ago, politicians ran on economic and international agendas. Very few included social matters in campaigns, cause that was always just left up to the people. So people just had conversations about things without it being tied to politics.

For the last 10-15 years, they have run on social agendas to gain more control over what people think and feel. The media and celebrities turn everything political now too and the government also has everyone thinking that every part of your life is dependent on who is in office.
It’s really really sad.

Some dudes watch TV news for hours a day, listen to talk radio in the car, and are reading political news on their phone constantly.

Its all they steep their minds in, so its all they have to connect to in conversation.

I know. We took our son who was visiting from out of town. The subject of mortgages came up and interest rates. And next thing you know he’s bitching about his student loan debt and it’s interest rate.
That was your choice - geez

For whatever reasons, TD has become a haven for ideologues.
I love the relaxed moderating policy, but it leaves the site open to this type of direction.

I personally preferred the old irreverent "abandon all hope ye who enter here" feel of the site. But that is long gone and I don't think it's coming back.

The shift has been in the last 7 imo. 2016 was the first election in my lifetime that wasnt still debating The New Deal (size and scope of government questions being a primary focus).

The politicians are a trailing indicator though. Political media knows culture issues elicit a stronger emotional response. They push those stories, people are more engaged, and then the politicians jump on.

The userbase have become a bunch of ideologues.

The bro who consumes way too much political news is also the prime demo to be posting on TD in 2023.
