Fiesta in San Antonio has over 100 Events in 18 Days with 3.5 million visitors.

Monaco is just a tiny resort for celebrities and F1 drivers. There are no “huge” events that go on there.

If I recall correctly, 5 million or so people attended the Cubs World Series celebration…

The name of the game is being the biggest hater. He who hates the most shite the hardest wins. I hate this thread so very badly, speaking of.
Pro tip for the game: if something doesn’t meet your every expectation and check every single one of your boxes……feel free to hate it. That will accumulate a lotta hate real fast. Basically the only thing I don’t currently hate is oxygen.

No city can do Mardi Gras like New Orleans does Mardi Gras, no will dispute that.
If you define "independent events in certain years" as both an NFL owner and the current District Attorney being carjacked on city streets, no city does those events quite like New Orleans, either.
I moved to Las Vegas just before Hurricane Katrina. Even before Katrina, the down slide of New Orleans was evident but I had some false hope that maybe Ray Nagin would ultimately prove to be something different. Katrina's aftermath showed otherwise.
Flash forward a few years and I come home to see the Saints win the Super Bowl. I stay for the parade, then hang around for nearly two weeks afterward. It seemed as though the Saints' resurgence had buoyed the city and maybe one miracle might just inspire another. 8 years each of Landrieu and Destroya have smashed those hopes into a million tiny pieces. The last 2 Mayors of Las Vegas have been a former Mob lawyer, followed by his now 84 year old wife...and folks HERE are laughing at what a mess New Orleans has become...and Lord knows, there's more than a few issues here.
In the end, Las Vegas and New Orleans are both alike and vastly different. Alike in that both can host certain events unlike anywhere else on the planet. Alike in that folks come from all over to let loose and act like they wouldn't be caught dead behaving back home. Alike in that in the immediate aftermath of the worst tragedy in the city's history, a local sports team galvanized the populace by far exceeding expectations and nearly riding the wave to a championship...though both teams would reach that goal a few years later. Vastly different in that LV is rapidly rising population wise, economy wise, also as a burgeoning media and sports market. New Orleans is either floundering or barely hanging on in all of those categories. Hopefully, hosting the Super Bowl next year can help to change that. Sadly, New Orleans isn't even on the NCAA's radar for future Final Four or even regional events. Las Vegas gets its Final Four shot in 2028.
New Orleans has seen its best day. It had a chance at rebirth following the tragedy of Katrina. It became the alcoholic that went dry for a couple of years, only to fall badly off the wagon.

How stupid are you is the better question. The tourism revenue that Las Vegas generates annually dwarfs (and that's putting it lightly) the tourism revenue that NOLA brings in.
My beef comparing New Orleans and Vegas is 2 different animals.
One city is completely focused on gambling and a larger convention center, Las Vegas. New Orleans on the other hand has a broader culture and more of an international destination for travelers.
Vegas is geared more for the large conventions. Vegas’s Convention Center is broken up into 3 main halls with over 3 million in exhibit space. The New Orleans Convention center has only 1.3 million in exhibit space. It is still in the top 5 of convention space in the U.S. I find going around the New Orleans Convention center is easier since it is consecutive halls, instead of Vegas’s L pattern and it is broken up into multiple interconnecting buildings that you have to walk over to get to the other exhibit space.
Vegas has a monorail while the New Orleans has streetcars if they are working. Biggest downfall of both systems they fail to connect to the major transportation points of the city. Vegas’s monorail ends at the MGM Grand just a mile or 2 from the airport. The New Orleans Airport is miles away. Not sure if there would be enough of a demand for a light passenger rail between the Airport and Downtown, or if bus service or shuttle buses are enough.
Both light rail systems are a good distance away from the stadiums. One positive for New Orleans is that the Loyola line comes within an “block” of the Superdome. Alliegent Stadium is in the other side of I-15, good luck walking there. At least the proposed MLB stadium will be near the Grand on the same side as the strip.

I always feel like there’s certain things and certain times when NOLA gets it right and it is a wonderful and magical place unlike anywhere else, but when NOLA shows it warts it can be absolutely disgusting.
It certainly has its contradictions.

What a stupid brag.
People in Louisiana do this all the time. I’ve heard rain brags, bridge brags, oyster brags.
The things people from a broken place choose to boast about…

One time it was a great city in the South.
Pontchtrain beach
Mardi Gras
Burbon street
Now it is the City of the dead.
Everything you love about New Orleans is slowly dieing or dead.
