Are you under the impression that unemployment is not taxed?

$1000-1500 a week.
The maximum unemployment in Louisiana for EVERYONE (including the $540 post tax federal unemployment and max $222 state post tax unemployment) is $762 a week or $3,049.
Texans get a maximum of $1,008 a week after tax unemployment.

These folks got a big stimulus check from the gov't along with extra $600 per week unemployment check. Add the state unemployment benefit and each one is getting between $1000-1500 a week. That’s 5k a month. Almost a 6 figure annual salary after taxes. Also if you have daycare (in my case) you have to add around $1000 extra revenue every month.
Yet can’t pay rent.
I think people are taking advantage of the situation
You should take advantage of your free time and brush up on some arithmetic

Interesting!
My calculations are based on my home state of Minnesota

Is dramatically rounding up numbers a Minnesota thing?

Here, total is $845 per week. Almost 1/2 million people have not seen a dime yet. Some applied 6-7 weeks ago and have not been processed yet.
Some of the lines at the places giving out groceries are miles long. I don't think your umbrella takes all people into account

The only thing coming out of your check is state and federal taxes? No insurance? 401K?
And a bi-weekly take home of 3K is 78K take home annually.

Yes heath insurance is about $100 monthly and 6% of paycheck towards 401K.
Minnesota state taxes are higher than LA

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that we all can safely guess that you are not teaching math for a living.
ETA: In AZ the max weekly is $240. If you don’t qualify for the usual state unemployment pre pandemic they aren’t even processing your claim for pandemic benefits until May 12th here. Supposedly you will get back pay though whenever your claim is processed.
So many have applied back in March and still haven’t received a single penny of unemployment.

She isn't getting that here in LA. The most anyone can get in LA is around $250/week.

I kind of understand. I have one rental that is a family of three. They have always paid the rent partially throughout the month including late fees. I told them that during this I would not charge any late fees. I also thought that during this they would catch up, and be able to start paying in full within the 1st-10th of the month. Well, today I picked up their last payment of April's rent.

I mean NYC has made it impossible to evict people. Being a landlord has to suck right now.
