People saying ‘or whatever it is’ when knowing exactly what they are talking about

Similar: ‘or whatever his name is’, ‘I think it is called...or something’ etc.

They aren’t fooling anyone because it is obvious they know the details so why do they act like they don’t know the details of what they are discussing?

What? I forget names all the time. I usually say, what's his face.

Is this going to turn into a “get your post count up” thread or whatever it is?

insecure.

My wife (no pics) does this and it comes 100% from insecurity. She is either scared that she is wrong OR more often she is scared the other person will get their feelings hurt for being wrong or she will come across as a know it all.

Example: Someone will say that the sky is green and my wife who 100% knows the correct color of the sky will say: "I think the sky might be blue...Right?"

It is very frustrating to watch my wife, who is a VERY smart person, constantly ruin her credibility by appearing that she is unsure of things that she 100% knows.

What I am saying is that in this instance you would know the name, perhaps even mention it, but act like you don’t know.

Listen out for this in conversation. It is a real thing.

It’s when they’re trying to imply that they don’t care about it or marginalize it.

Maybe. But noticing things like this in life and understanding the motivations behind the action could give you an advantage.
