They keep saying only the ones that are showing symptoms and have been approved with a Dr’s order need to be tested. Birmingham had a line miles long. Other cities around the country with people waiting for hours. If I’m that sick probably not sitting in line for hours. Sounds like lots of people wasting tests. Do some cities let anyone get tested?

The more tests the death rate will be lower. It's a good thing. More than likely a lot of us could have it.

The doctors are saying only symptomatic pts need to get tested at the moment because we don’t have enough tests for the general public. We 100% need as many people tested as possible so that we have accurate data. Otherwise we’re flying blind on how deadly/infectious it really is

I’m betting that there are well over 1 million people infected with the Chinese flu (I the US) and just don’t know it. Proof will be in the pudding… Mortality rate. It’s been hovering around 1.5% over the last couple of days but that’s somewhat irrelevant as testing has just really started. If the final numbers land at .5% or lower this is going to prove to be just a big nothing burger. Not discounting those that died but simply stating this is no different then the flu or any other virus that has hit this country. Certainly not worth crashing the economy and shutting everyone’s life down to a screeching halt.

Apparently they don’t test most people in line because they don’t need it.

The thing I don’t totally get is that if a lot of people barely have symptoms, especially early on, how will they ever get tested? Meaning wouldn’t you want someone who doesn’t have symptoms to know they definitely need to stay away from others?

My belief is that it is far more widespread than being reported considering that so many infected are asymptomatic.

Praying we get more tests soon. That's how SK got a hold of this thing. They tested a frickload of people right away and quarantined the mild symptom positives.

Yeah sort of my point. If possible wouldn’t you want to basically test anyone?

Can't see it happening any time soon since the mortality rate would drop insanely low.

I don't know about your state, but MO has stipulations. Dr's orders, Symptoms coherent with the virus, someone that's been around someone that's tested positive, etc. Not just anyone can pull up and be tested.

Who gives a frick about a mortality rate? I would like to know if I can hang out with my mom and sister in law. Mom is older with some issues and sister in law has cancer.

Because pussies can’t figure out that their sinuses are just acting up because pollen is everywhere

The general population should get tested.
Would show how truly low the mortality of this virus is.

It would help to figure out if the cure is worse than the disease. I think it has been confirmed that those who are immuno-defecient should refrain from contact with others for the time being.

Or.....if you aren’t 80+, and you have the symptoms, you could just you know, stay home and recover on your own while limiting your contact to other people to basically no one.
Or.... you could just go about your daily life and not go to nursing homes, and the old people could use their own brains and self quarantine themselves until this goes over, or they could just risk it and interact with the 99.9% of society this virus has little to no affect on.

Everyone cares. You should not hang out with your family for the time being. Tests will be more widely available in the next two weeks, hang tight
