Frustrating but gotta deal with it. You can't really police junk that's eventually going to be thrown away in due time.
This. Reserve outrage for the methheads who will no doubt come out later and strip copper wire from houses being redone.

That doesn't bother me as much as the sightseers that do nothing but get in the way to take pictures.
When all the homes still had water, there were many of us with higher vehicles bringing people and supplies back and forth from their homes. This group of assholes from Florida had a van with "Harvey Relief " written all over it in the middle of the street blocking traffic and taking pictures. I went off on them and lost it. A reporter from Channel 2 was there and told me that she would love to show that on air but the profanity and throwing of the selfie sticks was not appropriate for tv.

bruh, after Katrina, people were coming from all over the world and paying for tours of Lakeview, the 9th Ward. You would see these tour buses all over the place from the Gulf Coast to Uptown to Chalmette...these touring companies were making a killing

I didn't have a problem with them picking through my pile of shite. What I did have a problem with was they're constantly throwing from the top of the pile onto the part of the lawn that I'm not piling on. If you're going to be a roach and not help, at least don't make the mess worse than it is and make me have to throw it out twice. fricking useless rats...

I understand the sightseeing. At least wait until the water is out of the street and don't act like you are there to provide relief.

. They were trying to capitalize personally during a time were all hands were needed for cleanup.

I never said I cared if they did it or not. Just shared my observation.
The nerve...

You know how much money is being made off of the flood?
Lighten up francis

Once the sheetrock is gone, they know where to come for the copper wiring.

While helping a friend's family gut their house after the Baton Rouge flood, it was just expected that trucks were roaming the streets (usually Hispanic people) taking anything metal or box-springs (to burn to get the metal springs). A lot of people were taking wood furniture as well, and if one had the time and skill to restore it, they probably did very well.
The way I saw it, these people are earning money digging through trash to resell it. They have a much rougher life than me, and in the end, they are just clearing debris that will inevitably hauled away.
The only time it became an issue was when the sun went down, and people would then go behind houses to take what had been left under carports. Happened a few times to my friend's family and it just sucks, but that's human nature.
Anyway, stop bitching at other people and just focus on the task at hand. Take comfort knowing at the end of a long day gutting homes, you can take a hot shower and sleep in your bed in a house that was spared. That's what I did.

They still do, though much less frequent now. They would constantly block the bridge on Old Hammond Hghwy.

Visited my house today and several things are gone out of my pile. They took my fridge, washer and dryer and water heater among others. Doesnt bother me at all. I feel sorry for the MFs that loaded that fridge though. It smelled like a dead skunk's arse no doubt.

Look at it this way: The more stuff they take, the less the garbage trucks have to take. This means that your stuff will be picked up quicker because the garbage trucks won't have to make as many trips through your neighborhood to get everyone's debris piles.
It really sucks seeing the your stuff sitting and rotting on the curb for a month, only to have half the neighborhood's piles picked up while yours still sits because the trucks were full.

I had no problem with them going through our stuff. We even separated most of the metal from the main piles when we were dumping it. The only thing we did is put big signs on the items that we needed to keep until the adjuster inspected them. It sucks seeing everything you worked for sitting in your front yard but I had no problem with them coming through and making something out of nothing. The way I look at it is, if the stuff I have to throw away makes someone else's life just a little bit better, then great! I even helped the guys load all of our appliances up once the adjuster was done. One man's trash...
