The long dresses are due to a strict separation of gender roles in their religion. Shorts and Pants are for men, so women cannot wear them.

I buy some killer milk and butter from the Pentecostals at my local farmers' market. They're a little different, but are always friendly.

A girl I went to hs with was pentecostal, she always wore modest dresses, very little makeup, no jewery and had straight strawberry blonde hair down to her arse. She wasn’t bad looking, could of used a little bit more makeup, but still, I wood.

Nailed it. Thou shalt not wear that with pertaineth to a man. If you read in to the history of the deal, what they were referring to was battle armor. This was the only thing that got Joan of Arc the death penalty.
The TV thing isn't really a deal anymore, they all pretty much watch TV.
The hair goes to the scripture which says " a woman's hair is her glory". When you look into the history of that, what is being referred to was the Roman soldiers which occupied much of the holy land, when they went to war would shave the heads of their sloots, to let everyone know they were taken.

Pentecostal Holiness preachers usually switch churches once all the kids in the congregation start looking like him.

One of our good clients is pentecostal, very wealthy. The women in the family wear modest dresses but they are always the latest designer styles.

I do also know someone like this.

Well, I don't know for certain that she's Pentecostal, but I've always assumed because she only wears long skirts and has really long hair (bun). She does wear makeup, but only "nude" colored. She drives a 5 series, has a couple different Louis', and only wears designer sunglasses. Sort of goes against the whole Pentecostal vibe, but I don't really care. She's cool

Christ never watched TV either. Hmmmm.

I'm not pentecostal but I would imagine it has to do with the 2 scriptues that say the following (other is in 1 Peter). Ironically, iirc, many Pentecostals braid their hair. There is also an old testament scripture but don't recall it off the top of my head.

quote:

that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire”

Pentecostals are closer to our Creator re: clothing than the rest of us/you.

Back in my younger days we played in a softball tournament in Albany. We didn’t know that it was a group of pentacostals hosting the tournament. The first thing that gave it away was all the women wearing skirts down to their ankles and their hair down to their butts. The first problem we had was they told us we couldn’t drink beer at our vehicles in between our games. We tried to be respectful and we would pour our beer in cups. That wasn’t good enough for them. They also had a problem with that. The final straw was after a questionable call one of our outfielders dropped his pants and mooned them. They threw us out of the tournament after that. It was an interesting day to say the least

I grew up in a Pentecostal/Apostolic church, and it was strict as hell. No pun intended. I'm male, so the dress code wasn't a huge deal for me, but the females were expected to exude modesty in all outward appearances. Dresses, long hair, no makeup, etc. No TVs, movies, etc. Public school was frowned upon, and most of my peers were, like me, homeschooled.

I finally left and married a Baptist. Still somewhat strict but nowhere near Pentecostal levels. Before I left the church, I dated a girl from east Tennessee who was immersed in that religion. The church members in/around there were borderline insane in how much emphasis they placed on outward appearance: No shorts or short sleeve shirts for males or females. Dresses only (no pants) to the ankles for the females.

Unmarried males could not be alone with females ever. Once, in a hastily-convened conference call, the pastor's wife declared it unacceptable for me to drive a car with my girlfriend, her sister, and the pastor's daughter to a church function. It was completely insane how much control the church exercised over the member's daily lives.

All of that said, the church I grew up in has since disbanded. My former girlfriend is now an unmarried lesbian who has disowned her family. Her sister is now a tatted-up agnostic. The pastor's daughter overdosed/died on meth. Of the thirty or so kids in/around my church when I was growing up, maybe 2 or 3 still adhere to the main tenets of the faith. Hell, of the 200 or so church members, there's probably only a half dozen or so still alive who adhere to those beliefs.

But, yeah, growing up in that environment was not exactly ideal.

You haven't seen weird or out there until you come across a hutterite colony. They're very similar to Amish, but they literally have their own cities essentially. They use some modern technology like Mennonites do, but they're different. Not an easy way to explain it, but you get the creaps if/when you ever approach a colony. There's a lot of them in North and South Dakota. Mennonites are predominantly in southwestern Kansas.

All of these people live almost entirely off the land. If the world ever went to shite, they would honestly be the ones to repopulate the earth.
