Almost every week on here there is a post about speeding in neighborhoods and crashes. Its people driving faster and more distracted in bigger vehicles that make it harder to see blind spots. And frankly, just more reckless driving.
Waze and google maps take people on "short cuts" through neighborhoods now that no one but people who lived in the neighborhood used to know about.

These facts are so pedestrian

That article doesn't support your claims at all.

Previous microscale assessments have exposed racial and income disparities in access to walkable neighborhoods. Maintenance issues, tripping hazards, and sidewalk obstructions are found more frequently in majority non-white or Black neighborhoods (Rigolon et al., 2018; Kelly et al., 2007). Kelly et al. (2007) found that block groups that were majority Black were 15 times more likely to have sidewalk obstructions,

I have almost hit a couple of the idiots on Bird scooters. They just don't believe any laws apply to them when riding those scooters.

Bull shite. I drive for a living. Black people walk 1/2 out in the street, they stop in the middle of any road wherever they want, they basically dare you to hit them doing dumb stupid crap in the road.
Truth. But you will try to blame this on poor sidewalks? What a dumbass.

So you are calling the people I constantly see just walking out in the road with no regard for others, trash?
How progressive.

Segments with major sidewalk quality issues had a higher percent Black race, Latinx/Hispanic ethnicity, HS diploma or GED, below the poverty level or with a household income <$40,000, disability, vacant housing, and housing built before 1949; and lower percent with less than a high school degree or a bachelor's degree or higher and fewer housing units.

Block groups with lower SES indicators (i.e., poverty, household income, older homes, vacant housing) and a greater proportion of racial and ethnic minorities generally had significantly worse overall sidewalk quality. This aligns with research findings by Kelly et al. (2007) and Rigolon et al. (2018) that there were more tripping hazards in majority Black block groups and worse maintenance in majority non-White and low SES block groups.

Yes. This has become a huge problem in my neighborhood. The navigator apps will choose low traffic routes, not necessarily faster routes.
We now have commuters trying to fly down a 30 mph street that goes by an elementary school and a park. I've had motherfrickers tailgate and pass me - on this 2 lane street - then swerve around flipping me off on the way to the ghetto apartments that border the next neighborhood over.
I don't know what happened to traffic enforcement in Houston over the last 2 years; these are areas where I was traditionally scared to speed.

All cities have become victim to this.

Dallas hasn't had traffic enforcement in years. But our streets are so cratered and potholed that reduces the speed of most motorists a little bit.

So, they would prefer to be hit as pedestrians in the street rather than stepping on a crack?

Police forces are down in number and in most cities (supposedly) they are shifting the focus to try and stop violent crime, not doing traffic stops for speeding.
I've said this before but in some places traffic cameras are the solution, especially on residential streets. Problem is people don't trust the gov't to use cameras correctly and they only seem to go on high capacity streets to collect more revenue, vs. local residential streets.

Sounds like they should do a better job of keeping their neighborhoods up
