It's pretty clear that the Democratic game plan is to have these cities shut down under the promise that Biden will bail them out after he wins.

Even if that works out that way, it will be the city governments getting bailed out, not all the businesses that closed. They're ruining the lives of millions of people to play politics. That's absolutely sickening, there should be mobs with pitchforks and torches pulling these people out of city hall.

They are playing the long game. waiting on the big federal payday. They get whined at a lot. Whining falls on deaf ears when sociopaths are running things with the goal of lining their pockets.

Torches and pitchforks seems like a good idea except the blue-shirted army would kill those trying to storm city hall. So far, Destroya has felt no pain. Nobody has made her feel that each trip out to drink has a good chance of ending with a bullet or an arse whooping. Everybody whines but nobody throws a rock. Everybody could land a punch, then run, but whining is the choice instead.

Find what she loves, then show her it will be destroyed if she doesn't stop the systematic teardown of a once good city.

I never would have thought Pat Os employed over 200 people.

The service industry was always a comfort blanket for the New Orleans economy, the fact thats now on its knees too shows how fricked we are.

Any company that grows in Louisiana inevitably leaves or is scooped up. In recent years we've lost Ruths Chris, Smoothie King, Freeport and the biggest bank in the State was bought out not so long ago. Canes already have one foot in Texas. Sure it won't be long before Walk-Ons get a stench of that suburban Dallas corporate HQ air.

The whole region is stagnant. New Orleans make cities like Memphis, Jacksonville and Birmingham look like economic powerhouses. Our suburbs are well behind as well. I visited Memphis recently and couldn't believe how many nice suburban office buildings there were compared to here, likewise with hotels. Theres a really nice Hilton out past the loop. Call it soulless but thats part of the appeal for all these companies that leave this area. Better, more convenient premises.

The sad is thing we do have things going for us too. The fact we are so isolated from other major cities, we have two pro sports teams, a college powerhouse and we now have a decent airport. Tons of culture here obviously. These things should at the very least make us a regionally strong economy. However, we aren't. We have two fortune 500s in the whole state and who knows if they aren't looking at making moves.

A start would be for the powers that be to get their fingers out and approve a winning bid for the convention center district development. The city sorely needs more modern Class A office space and housing for millennials, and amenities that appeal to people wanting to live in New Orleans, you know, not the fricking tourists who leave after a weekend. Maybe a hand grenade museum could create some vital jobs?

WWL from Nov 5
quote:

NEW ORLEANS — Mayor LaToya Cantrell on Thursday told Carnival krewe captains to submit recommendations by Dec. 5 on how their parades might proceed with Mardi Gras 2021, while observing guidelines to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Cantrell repeated her announcement earlier in the day that Mardi Gras 2021 is “not cancelled, just different.” She and other city leaders spoke at a virtual meeting of the Mayor’s Mardi Gras Advisory Committee, which is made up of captains and representatives of all the city’s parading clubs.

NEW ORLEANS — Parades "of any kind will not be permitted" in New Orleans for the 2021 Carnival season, according to a FAQ published on the city's official website.

"Parades of any kind will not be permitted this year because large gatherings have proven to be super spreader events of the COVID-19 virus," the FAQ titled “Mardi Gras 2021 FAQs.”

Was that Charbonnet person honestly so bad that NOLA took an import from California over her for mayor?

For a place so parochial that your high school is still an important symbol of status well into adulthood, how did an outsider pull off the win in the first place?

Sidney Torres ran ads against Charbonnet because of a personal vendetta against her. He also donated heavily to LaToya to help her beat Charbonnet.

Look at the demographics of Orleans Parish in relation to race, education and income and it's not surprising she won.
