No idea. I thought Vegas was still closed. Did they have fans in the stands yesterday?
Florida would probably allow them if anyone was willing to host one. Which is probably more of the question, will you get attendees.

I have a conference in FL in October (that I'm not going to) and one just announced for April 2021 in CA (Long Beach).

LV played @ NE yesterday. Quote from Raiders owner Mark Davis ... “After intensive consultation with healthcare officials and state and community leaders, we have made the difficult decision to play the Las Vegas Raiders 2020 inaugural season at Allegiant Stadium without fans in attendance. This decision is based on our commitment to protect the health of our fans and the entire community in response to the coronavirus pandemic affecting us all.”

It's pretty clear that the Democratic game plan is to have these cities shut down under the promise that Biden will bail them out after he wins.

but even if that ever comes, it'll be far too late for many of the businesses
They only care about getting trillions for the government losses. That's why it's crazy that she's telling people that the federal government has to make it right when they're talking about private losses. It would be impossible to create a nationwide bailout for businesses. if they did it would not be run by the mayors of cities anyway

That’s what I’ve heard too. My buddy got back a few weeks ago and said the same, bug to be honest, I’m not sure when he’s comparing it to. He just said people were everywhere, mask and no mask.

What the frick did you just fricking say about me, you little bitch? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I'm the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the frick out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fricking words. You think you can get away with saying that shite to me over the Internet? Think again, fricker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're fricking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable arse off the face of the continent, you little shite. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fricking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shite fury all over you and you will drown in it. You're fricking dead, kiddo.

its one thing for a city like NY to have approached this the way they did, the fact is economically they'll eventually recover
NOLA should have been open for business stealing conventions left and right because the hospitality industry is its life blood. The end game has to be the hope of some massive federal funding but even if that ever comes, it'll be far too late for many of the businesses. Plus its NOLA so that money will just get put into the wrong hands anyway. Amazing how stupid and short sighted the leadership there is.
Exactly. There is no data the proves NOLA should be as closed as it is. And to compound the situation, FL is open and all the other surrounding states will be following suit.
They could easily be opening the city up, getting back to recovery and try to start actually poaching conventions from some of those major cities like Chicago, NYC, etc. where the lockdowns continue. NOLA needs the business way more long-term than they do.
It's easy to see why Perry lost his mind earlier this year. He knew what was at stake. The rest of the city government seems to think this magical funding will cure all woes. None of that helps if your entire tax base has shut its doors. And after all this, why, why would anyone new actually want to open a business in Orleans parish?
It's like you said though - just completely short-sighted all the way around.

damn you are one obtuse MFer
stealing conventions in 2021/22/23 from blue state sites (like San Diego)
instead San Antonio, Orlando and Atlanta are going to feast because their red state Govs are accelerating the return to business

Recovery Plan Straight from Destroya's desk
Biden wins, get that Federal Paper
or
Biden loses, burn the city down
then
Sell what's left to whomever will cut the biggest broker fee

I’d be shocked if we EVER see national trade conventions again on even 50% of the scale we have had in the past. Dire for a place like New Orleans and a few others.

They BUS voters to the polls every single election, and Reverend tells them who to vote for.
Its worse than that. They pull up to a neighborhood with a bus. "Everyone who gets on and votes for our candidate gets a beer and a pack of cigarettes."

Okay? I just don’t see how there’s any way the whole massive trade convention model is not turned on its ear forever. I guess we shall see.
This isn’t even a point focused on New Orleans except for the fact that it potentially impacts it rather disproportionately.
ETA, I see how my post could have been interpreted to think I just meant convention business in New Orleans. I meant overall nationwide and even internationally.

As for Mardi Gras--is the big question mark right now as one idea is to have Mardi Gras but with NO throws and no spectators. The Krewes will roll down the parade routes and spectators can watch them roll virtually. I'm unsure how many Krewes will actually roll under this model but it is a leading contender if we have Mardi Gras in 2021. Everyone knows that Mardi Gras is the economic engine for the entire area so if it gets cancelled the carnage will be catastrophic for every single restaurant/bar/retail establishment not only in Orleans but also in Jefferson.
This can’t possibly be a consideration.
First, who the hell wants to watch a parade virtually?
Second, Would they have the resources to keep the entire parade route clear of people?
Third, how would this help restaurants and hotels if the parades are virtual? How many tourists do they expect to come in town and spend money on hotels to watch a virtual parade?

I don't know if I believe that. At some point, we'll have moved on past the Rona and still have a desire to run up insane bar and restaurant tabs on our vendor's company credit card.

Fourth. My wife rides in Muses. There is no way in hell that she would spend a dime to ride in a virtual parade. In fact she was kinda shitty that last year the Destroyer forced them to ride on Friday night without bands and marching groups.
I can’t imagine a lot of people spending several thousands of dollars to ride in a virtual parade. That’s a really dumb idea.
