I need to go over to the Passport Office downtown New Orleans to get a passport made for quick travel. How big of a mess is this office? Any tips?

Not sure if covid has slowed them, but you can get it done in a few hours.

You better schedule an appointment first. If you just show up, even if there is no one there, they won't service you unless you made an appointment.

Had a family member just experience this nightmare. Had to miss a trip because of it. The lady behind the counter took a special joy in telling them it would only take her a few minutes to do what they needed, but she wouldn't bc they didn't schedule an appointment.

Government offices work at a breakneck pace.

You should be just fine.

It’s in canal place. Parking is easy in the building. Walk on over to the new four seasons and check it out. There is a French truck coffee shop near by. Make a little day of it.

Just whatever you do, do not go expecting any modicum of acceptable service. If you do you're going to have a bad time.

As of December last year if u planning on walking out with a passport the same day you will have to make an appointment 2 weeks prior to your departure date. Wife called 2 weeks out to make appointment and there were none available and no waiting list. Don’t know if anything has changed. Good luck

The passport office is actually one of the more efficient branches of the government - they nearly ALWAYS beat their published dates by a wide margin.

This was pre-COVID fwiw and I’m talking primarily about mail in services (both standard and expedited) - not sure if it’s changed since COVID and limited in person service hours

They can do it in about 90 minutes. Make an appointment and go. Get extra pages.

yeah....we tried this out west and it didnt work out.

we had the tickets and the Dr's statement but in the end there were no appointments available.

It was for a renewal and the current passport is good thru april 2022.

If you travel international alot the long renewal lead time will cause challenges. Given the long waits they need to change their policy and let people hold on to their existing passport while waiting for the new one.

It makes no sense to go 12-18 weeks without a passport since you have to turn yours in.

This was my experience quite some years ago. Applied and paid the expedited fees in the morning, and it was ready in the afternoon.

Now, your guess is as good as mine.
