I don't think people realize how big the explosion/fire would be from this HIGH PRESSURE 24 inch gas line would be.

So, you mean lose money running the business?
You know why the son of a bitch closed up shop, right?
That area can't support what you said it needs.

Just to throw in another theory to the mix...
A co-worker of mine has a good friend of his "in-the-know" who said that holes were drilled in the post/pre-tensioned concrete (not sure what the difference is or what was used here) to install plumbing and that some of the cables in the concrete were severed as as result causing the slabs to sag???
Not saying this is accurate, just hadn't heard this theory yet....
as you were.

out next then Torres
What the hell has Torres done?
My biggest beef with Torres is he let the city tun him out of the FQ cleanup business.
Dude needs to get some balls and take that contract back. Never in my life did I believe the FQ could smell so good. Torres made me a believer.

it is accurate to say that if the PT tendons were severed, that the integrity of the slab(s) would be compromised

the upper floors were not post-tensioned.

The plan sheets that were posted in this thread yesterday did not indicate that the floors or slabs were post or pre tensioned.

Go back and watch the intial collapse when a huge electrical spark flared off. That would be enough to ignite the gas.

If there's any municipality I trust to use EXPLOSIVES to blow up TWO giant cranes that weigh over 40 TONS a piece in a historic neighborhood directly across the street from a historic theater they just spent $54 million to renovate, it's the city of New Orleans.
Laissez les bons temps rouler.
I haven't been following very closely, but if that leaning crane really started out straight up, that's some scary shite so far.
Good luck out there, baws.

It's like some of you don't know how construction works at all
Well, to be fair, apparently neither did the construction team.
Unless they secretly wanted a Frank Gehry building.

I think what he was getting at is that the gas inside the 24” pipe would be too rich to ignite. Now once the line is ruptured and the gas found an ignition source you would have a rather large torch, but not an explosion.

Why doesn’t he just throw his money in a 55 gallon drum and light it on fire? It will be a lot easier for him that way.

Does anyone know if the detonators are wireless or hard wired? I don’t know shite about explosives.

Was the crane operator in the crane when it collapsed. Talk about a pucker factor and a story to tell if he was.

Yes. It was moving.

He needs to get better friends. Those would have to be some massive holes. Also, there was no PT on the upper levels that collapsed. The PT portion of the building probably saved a bunch of lives during the collapse.

Well this shite show just got more complicated according to another lawsuit just filed.
LINK ]New Hard Rock collapse lawsuit filed on behalf of workers, some in country illegally
NEW ORLEANS —
Another lawsuit has been filed in the wake of the Hard Rock Hotel collapse.
The lawsuit was filed on behalf of five injured workers, some of them were Hispanic workers in the country illegally, according to the law firm of Wright Pichon and Gray.
One of the injured workers was taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and is now being detained in the federal detention facility in Oakdale.
That worker's attorneys say he was detained less than 24 hours after talking about the accident with a Spanish-language news outlet.
The firm that filed the lawsuit alleges the building collapsed due to poor workmanship, poor quality materials, faulty engineering and unsafe acceleration of multiple phases of the construction project.
"It's very disheartening that so many workers on the site of the Hard Rock construction collapse are afraid to come forward for fear of being deported or some other form of retribution by their employer," said Darrell Gray, one of the attorneys representing the workers. "Immigrants are exploited for the growth of our great nation, and that does not have to be the case."
The firm called the accident "purely a profit over-people tragedy with deep social injustice implications."

Nobody is core drilling a post tensioned slab without Xraying the slab to find the cables.
I guess some people could, but theyd be idiots with a death wish.
