So.... should I try and sell my Saenger season tickets?

The kids were bummed about Wicked. Personally I liked the sight lines better at the Mahalia Jackson.

Prepare thy anus Orleans Parish tax payers because you can write in ink the Saenger is closed until much much futher notice and that's assuming the cranes don't impact the building any more.

How do you convince a company to risk its existence on being able to bring this thing down without damaging anything nearby?
notoriety. there might be some swinging dick that could come in and do it. But i highly doubt it.

So they know where they are and can get close enough to swab / inject them... but can't get the bodies out?

Well, there's a giant pile of unstable rubble on top of them. You send in two guys to try to move stuff around to recover the one dead body, then you're gonna need to send in 6 guys to recover the 3 dead bodies...

At this point, identify the dead and then leave the recovery of remains for when it's safer to do so.

notoriety.

and money...
if there's enough money in it, somebody will stick their necks out (within reasonable limits of liability). i was convinced that nobody would bid taking the REL statue down (i still think that the risk outweighed the reward) but i was wrong

Yea, but the company that bid on that is "special" to say the least

We say that, but Loyola and Howard is a hot area for condos. Yet the abandoned skyscraper still languishes there

That building has some nasty, nasty, nasty stuff in it. The remediation cost - which would need to happen before it could be reused or even torn down - is well into 8 figures.

Does the Saenger not have business interruption insurance? Why would the city be paying them anything?

People seem to overlook that a lot.

Wait until people realize Endymion has to roll on the uptown route.

They'll be out on St. Charles with spray paint next week.

I'll bet they just move to the Mahalia Jackson. It's larger and has less going on.

Let's take it one day at a time. It seems people are getting hysterical with timelines.

The City runs the Canal Street Development Corporation which owns the Saenger Theatre (business). The actual property is owned by a consortium who leased the property to the CSDC. Taxpayers are on the hook because the BI won't cover the Saenger's loses because the insurance will max out way before that.

They couldn't move Wicked - it has to be out by a certain point so they can move to the next city.

But, if this is going to take a while at the Saenger, then it's highly likely the next few shows will move to the Mahalia Jackson. They will figure out a ticket swap, and life will go on.

The Saenger and the Mahalia Jackson are both owned by the city and both run by the same management company. They will figure this out before the next show.

Thought they were about to condem that again. Maybe it was something about renovations I was reading.
