Yeah there is no good way to get that tower crane down. For one it’s counterweighted so even if you can break it free with a large crawler it’s going to be crazy unstable. Secondly someone has to separate the jib so who’s going in the manbasket?

Send me up. But give me $10 mil cash off the books, an unlimited supply of beam and a dozen fresh glazed donuts before I go up.

I assume you would stage a crane on Canal. Would it reach? What about a few of these bad boys. LINK

I haven’t followed this since it happened and I’m a structural nincompoop, but are they trying to salvage what’s left? Seems like they’d have to controlled demo the rest and start over.

I’m no crane expert but trying to lift the whole thing at once with the reach needed I am guessing is not feasible.
They make super lifts like this but sometimes it takes months just to build the foundations for the lift.
Perhaps there is such a crane made but I bet it takes a long time to set up even if it’s available or in the area.
Not trying to be a naysayer but I don’t think it’s as simple as picking up the phone and calling Deep South.

Can’t do anything yet. The building is not secure and the cranes are likely coming down. That area is fricked for the next few months.

And being in a historic district with old delicate buildings it’ll need to be very controlled.
Every height variance request in the quarter for the next century will have the VCC point at this to oppose it

I contracted them on a major oil and gas job last year. their big versa crane is a site to behold in person. And yes the poster above is correct, you need a lot of real estate to set up all the parts to put it together and and it takes a month or so.

I just saw a video taken inside the Hard Rock before the collapse. They re-shored the deck because of serious deflection. The video shows the floor deflecting so much that the reshore was bending.
This is bad.

I would like to see proof of this

They’re still trying to stabilize the area but that being said I’d be shocked if at a minimum the entire steel structure (non concrete parking garage podium) wasn’t torn down.
This is going to be tied up in litigation for years so this thing will most likely become an abandoned eyesore for years.

I was told the same thing today. I am not in this industry and i no idea about all this lingo but was told there was defects on the top floors and when there was moisture it was collecting in the middle.

That’s cute T00f. How about we just let the Union baws in there to handle it? They sound like they are obviously the most qualified and smartest. Anyone not in a union could never figure this out.

Whatever
Let me help you. What you are saying was there were deflections in the slab when they poured the concrete and when it rains there were puddles in the center?

No the counterweights on the smaller of the 2 cranes is 40 tons.

Put another crane out there with someone in a man basket to rig it.
Once it's rigged put tension on it and torch the bottom. It can be done you just need to get government people out of the way.
I agree or something similar.
