And the kids need to learn that their beds are a safe place. I had mine trained from day one that there is no way she's getting in my bed. As a parent, I can attest that your summation is true. These are the same mother frickers that let their kids run around a restaurant yelling. Discipline is out the window nowadays.

Some of the absolutely most miserable parents I know are ones that allow their children to sleep in their bed. The marriage declines into shambles, and the children always have issues developing normally.
It's usually due to selfish parents. You can cuddle with your kids before bedtime, or early in the morning when they wake up. But they have to learn boundaries, and understand that the parents and children should have their own space.
I know the parent of an 12 year old that sleeps with her every night. Can't get them into their own room.

Just to throw a different scenario into the mix, what if the family isn't well-off financially and only have one bed? Should the parent(s) or kid(s) sleep on the floor? Will the same negative impact to the child occur in this situation?

Friend of mine had a ten year old son. She let him still sleep in the same bed.
And she wondered why the kids picked on him at school for being a mama's boy.

My 9 year old has a pallet on our floor and he comes in every night at some point. It was our bed until he got too big. I just completely redid his room to see if it would inspire him to stay the night, but nope. He's got crazy sleep anxiety.
