This will probably end up on Dateline. I think the first theory I'd look at is someone stalking one of them. It appears ASP is going over all area cameras which will take time

Here's a stat for you: one study found that individuals who possessed guns were 4.46 times more likely to be shot in an assault.
Total BS.

There is an open murder case out in Fort Collins for a murder of a man while he was hiking, guess I need to carry now every time I hike alone
There was some kind of super duper serious badge wearing hiking team leader earlier in the thread that said this rarely happens which sounds exactly like something a trail murderer would say lol
I've watched countless crime shows about murders on trails and also murderers that basically live on trails. I go out into remote areas of arkansas mountains damn near daily without a side arm. If I am by myself I don't really worry about much but when my family is with me I am absolutely armed. By myself I have a lot of options to get myself out of a situation but with my family I'd pretty much just have to stand my ground.

I have a rule to avoid any hiking or camping, fishing etc at any place with “Devil” in its name. It’s usually comes from a translation from Native Americans and typically they called it that because historically bad things happen there.
Is this the same “Devils Den” that the two army guys were camping and allegedly abducted by aliens and tortured and experimented on. Terry Lovelace, he became a US Attorney or something. I think the book is incident at Devils Den. He is the one with the confirmed implant that was taken out etc.
These places attract weird people and things. That family with the baby and dog that all died mysteriously on 2 mile hike in middle of the day year before last was in Devils canyon, Arizona or something.

carry a firearm for any reason it is their right to do so in the United States and god bless and god speed....but claiming it is necessary for survival is simply not so....all this is needed is it is a right and it is something an individual wants to do, period, end of story....going beyond that and claiming it is a matter of personal security is just silly
Well in this particular case being discussed right now, both parents carrying concealed weapons might well have saved both of their lives.

Why did this thread morph into carrying rather than what happened?

Not sure but mods should try to clean it up

One reason is if they had been carrying what would have been the outcome. Arkansas is an open carry state, but can you carry in a state park? I have come across a lot of weird people while hiking the trails of Arkansas.

That husband looks kinda shady
He may have been involved in some shady stuff
Hard to believe this was random
These are my thoughts as well. If it's a random killing by someone just looking to kill, why target an entire family? Usually, these types target lone females.

The shirt he was wearing is a North Face one

IDK what happened or why but her going back to the scene and getting murdered too is just a slap in the face for the sacrifice her husband made which allowed the wife and kids to escape, initially.
So the mom took the kids to the ranger station after seeing her husband get stabbed and then went back....alone?
That's so odd as to almost defy belief.

The current facts are that she told the girls to run. She never left the scene with the girls.

Since both were killed by stabbing, had both been carrying, the one not stabbed would have had a chance. This isn't Great Britain and I don't think most of us anticipate strangers with knives. Maybe we should.

Concealed or carrying openly would have probably turned out differently no doubt. That is not the point, the point is the insane idea that it is unsafe to venture away from home without a gun. It is not unsafe to do so. The original post I responded to said something along the lines that this case was why they never go hiking without a gun LOL....as if it was an idiotic concept to do so because hiking is notoriously fraught with peril.....I am merely pointing out that one suffers from irrational fears if they feel they must be armed in the US to prevent being the victim of a violent crime when it is very rare for any one individual to be a victim of a violent crime. especially an individual hiking in that park....it is statistically insignificant. If one wants to carry a gun that and and the fact it is legal and their right to do so is all the justification or reason needed....pretending like its dangerous not to when the statistics indicate nothing could be further from the truth is just silly. I own an AK because its damned fun to shoot and I don't like the idea of people telling me I can't. I don't pretend to own it because I suffer from irrational fears - I own it because its damned fun to shoot and I am a contrarian who does not like the idea of other people what I can and can't own. Had it not been for the latter I would not own one because I am cheap bastard and have no use for one. It is an insane idea to suggest ones life is imperil without a gun on them in the United States. Guns are fricking fun and legal and that's all the reason anyone needs to own one and tote it around if they want to.

I've seen 44 magnums, short barreled 12 gauges loaded with slugs, and short barreled 45/70s. I've never seen anything as small as a 10mm.

As if you have any fricking clue how you would react in that situation … Give me a break

Its been rising the preferred guide sidearm for over a decade. Having 16 shots > 5 or 6.
44 mags, good luck on follow through shots. The semi auto format and easier follow up makes it the modern choice.
