Build your own. Get a cheap red MOLLE bag (6x8 ish), don't underestimate how important it is that it's high vis, your brain doesn't work the same under stress.. Stick a tourniquet or two in it, hemostatic powder, and a field dressing. Maybe a little flashlight or headlamp and some scissors. That's basically what's in my three kits (car, house, and ruck.) Breathing, bleeding, burns, and breaks. Solve the first two, everything else can wait.
Good idea. I'd add an all weather whistle to it, because that sound carrries well beyond what your frazzled vocal cords can produce.

Glock 20 (10mm) with Buffalo Bore Dangerous Game loads. Not optimal for 2-legged predators, but it'll work on pretty much anything in Arkansas.
I carry those same rounds in cz75. I switched from a 357mag revolver to a 10mm pistol that holds 15+1. Just seemed better to have more ammo and also the 10mm is stainless so im noy constantly battling rust from sweat. Those hard cast juiced up 10mm rounds are no joke.

According to the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting, 65-75% of all homicides involve a known assailant. Further, homicides by sharp instruments (eg, knives) between 70-80% are committed by someone known to the victim. Strangers account for only 20% of knife related murders.
That's because most knife related homicides are passion killings, where a domestic dispute turns into one of the participants grabbing a kitchen knife and stabbing their partner. It's a weapon of convenience in that moment.

I’m well aware crime can happen out here. Been victim to it.
Also well aware there are guns out here.
Great hunting out here.
I’m just mentioning the only times I hear talk about how they need to be packing and wish they had a gun on them is when family visit and we are out at farmers market or checking out some waterfall on a hike.
My kids have been camping out here with friends since they started high school on any public land they can find. BLM, state parks/forest. National parks/forest, country parks. Side of road. Etc.
None of them carry.
He’s going with a few kids to Montana next week for ten days of camping and mountain biking without a gun. Hope they survive.
Only time they bring guns is when they are actually hunting game.

I guess it all depends on what side of the statistics you want to be on. Do you want to be on your side of the .4% where your kids become orphans and your family has to bury you and try to get your kids to not go off the deep end?
Or do you want to be on the .4% that gets to go home to your family?
Tough choice, really.
It really isn't a tough choice...your math is flawed. If .4% of us get murdered 95.6% of us do not....that's the side I would prefer.

I mean, I carry water and TP also.
Most humans need some water or something to drink multiple times a day. Most take a dump once a day. Only a miniscule number ever face a random act of violence when they are not in the act of committing a crime themselves. If one wishes to carry a firearm for any reason it is their right to do so in the United States and god bless and god speed....but claiming it is necessary for survival is simply not so....all this is needed is it is a right and it is something an individual wants to do, period, end of story....going beyond that and claiming it is a matter of personal security is just silly. It is also liable to cause such people all manner of mental health issues...lying to ones self is not healthy.

This is fricking hilarious
I can remember a time not too long ago where you and all your fricking people were duped into believing your biggest threat to survival was fricking white supremacy
Shut the frick up with your bullshite, that’s enough!
My people? Who is that? I have never been threatened by white supremacy LOL...I am amused at the idea, I am disgusted by the behavior of ignorant white trash but I am not in the least threatened by them. I am also not threatened by anyone carrying a gun, I don't care who is toting a gun, it is their right to do so and its none of my business...but someone claiming its nearly or not possible to survive without doing so is just silly...it is entirely possible to do so.
And frick you and the mule you rode in on LOL...shut the frick up with your bullshite, that's enough....

You've never even picked up a gun, have you?
You suffer from the delusion that understanding basic math and having the ability to reason logically is indicative of someone who has never picked up a gun? That line of reasoning would mean that someone who had picked up a gun may not be able to understand basic math and reason logically, and while I imagine that is largely true of most true gun nuts (have you ever observed the average gun show attendee????) there is no logic in leaping from someone pointing out that the odds of being a victim of a violent crime is extremely low and that claiming you are afraid to leave the house with out a gun is silly means that person has never picked up a gun. That's a you problem my friend, not a rest of the world problem.
Not that it matters but I have indeed picked up a gun many times. I own a safe full of shotguns, a few rifles and several hand guns. I do not shoot any of them much any more but I still hunt ducks, geese and dove 8 - 10 times a year and will shoot a couple of rounds of sporting clays 10 or so times a year. That doesn't mean, however, that I am afraid to leave home without a gun...I almost never leave home with a gun because I seldom ever leave home and will need a gun....and I know with no uncertainty that the odds of being struck by lightning randomly when there is not a cloud in sight is about the same as being a victim of violent crime. Both can happen, universally people would find it strange for an adult to be overly cautious about cloudless lightning. Most people find it equally strange that some grown adults, mostly male, are afraid to leave their home without a gun. Carry a gun if you wish. Claiming it would be difficult to survive without doing so is just silly....

This is part of the reason I work out. I would imagine someone walking around that looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger is even less likely to be a victim of a crime than your typical overweight baw.
I would bet this is correct. It also helps to be aware of your surroundings...one of the best ways to avoid street crime anywhere on the planet is to appear as if you know where you are, where you are going and what you are about....

Now it is being said she told the girls to run. Clarifying that she did not return with them to the parking lot/visitor center. It is also being reported the girls did not recognize the attacker.

I haven't seen that anywhere, but it makes much more sense.

Saw it this morning along with the sketch but not sure where. I live in the AR/OK/MO area so I am sure a news site.

It does.
When we hike where there's bear potential, I had to tell my wife, that if it happens and I tell her to run, she has to run.
No point in both of us getting et.
Likely she was trying to help him...

This picture was just released of the suspect.

Police said in a news release they believe the suspect "likely sustained an injury while attacking the couple," but did not say how the suspect may have been injured or what led them to believe that was the case.
Hopefully he left some blood and they can get DNA.
