Parents Board- Chores for kids

The thread on MSB got me thinking about all the spoiled brats we seem to be raising.
I have my 6 year old do a few chores, but nothing too tough. I think I have convinced myself that he is capable of doing more to help around the house than I have assigned him.
My 17 year old takes care of her room, bathroom, unloads and loads the dishwasher, help dust.
When did most on the OT start expecting help from their kids doing the household chores? Do you pay them an allowance?

At 6/7 we started having to dust, load/empty dishwasher, take clothes piles to the laundry. Started vacuuming and cleaning bathrooms around 8/9 along with mowing. Got paid a small allowance each week. Put that kid to work.

My 10 year old doesn't do shite. It's his mother's fault. She spoils him. He stays in his room and plays PS4 all day. I don't think he knows how to do any chores. But all I do is cut the yard so the wife must spoil me too

Kids should be given an allowance equal to the going rate for one set of truck nuts.

I spent a few hours every saturday from age 5-6 till 17 working on the house with the parents. Taught me good work ethic and the value of earned income. Did a good job, I got a few bucks... did a crappy job, I got a few hours to think about it in a corner somewhere. Tell them frequently how grateful I am to have been raised this way.

My kids started at 5 . My youngest is 7, he loves to mop. My 8 year old daughter catches a head ache when she has to do chores, just like her mother

My underage daughter (no pics you pervs) cleans her room, bathrooms, vacuums, helps with clothes and kitchen. Cuts grass and weedeats.
For this she gets a free car, paid insurance, free gas and an allowance when I can remember.

We have a "chore board" at the house. It has their daily chores listed under each of their names, then in the middle it has other chores that need to be done, but not by any one particular kid. For completing all of this they get $2/day. Then there are "chores for hire" below all of it. They're little extra things that they can do to make extra money. My boys are 9 and 7 so it's nothing really big. My oldest cuts the grass on the lawnmower after I cut around the fence line to give him an area to stay within.

I always did chores without payment but my parents already paid for everything. If I needed money I asked for it. I cut grass starting at 14 for cash. I'll let my kids do the same.

My dad owned a resturant plus he had small farm. I know about this all too well. One time at 13 years old I asked when will I start getting paid. He said I eat and have a roof over my that's my payment . He was rough but the work ethic he instilled in me was worth it.

My kids don't have "set chores" as their active schedules keep them (and me) running. It's more like "mow the grass, please" (I say please just to be polite .. it's not an option) or "your laundry is clean; hang it up or put it away".
I work very part time and am pretty much home the rest of the time while they're in school. I find it hard to "leave" things for them to do while I can easily do it. Should I leave things? Probably. But they're good students, respectful kids, and do what we ask/tell them to do without argument.
I struggle with them not having more honestly. And no they don't get an allowance.
