Isn't that special. God told them to have a bunch of children and chain them to beds

For everyone who hasn't read the articles, the family is originally from Texas.

Bat shite crazy people come from all over and don't fall into any one race/political party/area.

But they have 12 children. I think it's safe to assume they the didn't just move there yesterday and they are doing their bat shite crazy stuff in California. In liberal tranquility land. Correct?

The distraught grandparents added that David and Louise Turpin are considered a good Christian family in their community, saying they can't understand “any of this.”

"God called on them" to have as many children as they did, James and Betty Turpin said of their son and daughter-in-law.

The arrested couple's parents also said the children were given "very strict homeschooling," and that the children would memorize long passages of the bible. Some of the kids' goal was to memorize it in its entirety, the couple said. ...

... And Olha (a neighbor) noted that the family's Christmas decorations once stayed up long after Christmas.

"Last Christmas, they had their nativity scene, and it stayed up for months and months, to the point where I wanted to knock on the door and say, ‘Listen, do you need help?' Past Easter, it was up," she said.

I know a few really weird people that home-school their kids. I always think it's bad for the kids. How will they not grow up being odd?

There are so many good reasons to homeschool. Let's face it public school sucks and private schools are often not much better. Teachers fricking kids, drugs, bullying, standardized testing, why would anyone want to send their kids there?

I don't think homeschooling is the problem here. It is the awful parents.
