No and we need to stop treating them as such.

Aren't all adults morally obligated to be role models? Many just fail to live up to those obligations.

No but they also shouldn’t expect to have a platform every time they want to spew their bullshite opinions.

Most professional athletes are dumber than the general public so I don’t understand how they feel they need to educate the public on politics

Obligated, no. Encourage followers/fans to do the right thing by leveraging their fame, yes.

As others define the term "role model?" no. People say Charles Barkley isn't a role model for gambling, for example, but I don't give a shite.

Hell nah!

Amateur Olympic athletes can be an exception.

And celebs? Role models for how NOT to act.

Absolutely not. They are there to entertain me with their amazing athletic ability. Nothing more

No.

If they want to use their fame in that way, great, but there is no obligation.

Agree. They have no moral obligation to be good role models, but they are role models because we are stupid enough to give them a platform. It’s an uphill battle for parents to teach their children these athletes/celebs aren’t to be idolized or even regarded. The exposure is constant.
