Worked as a supplier to this mill for some time, and their administration was packed with arrogant 'gimmee, gimmee, gimmee' assholes...particularly purchasing. By far my most difficult customer !
Those kinds are the worst for a sales guy to deal
with because you can never satisfy them.

I warned you about that frickin place and their management.
Market my arse.
4 yrs of brain drain since Down Hill showed up caught up with em. Only communication paper was planned and can be attributed to market.
Pulp and energy? 100% due to lack of experienced engineers that said frick off and left before the first salary layoffs in 2015.

I was actually looking forward to working with the new mill manager, Mark Martin. He is a good leader
I was following your advice Mikie, been looking to get out since last summer, this just makes it more urgent

If someone there is willing to move to Tennessee, Ohio, Arizona, Kentucky, or Mississippi my nephew works for this family owned company that treats their employees well. He said if it makes it to the external website no one has applied for it internally which is a good sign for applicants.
They have a few consumer products mfg plants in the US and someone may find a job that fits their skills.
This is their career page. Jobs will vary from engineering, mfg, mgmt, and IT depending on openings. They mostly make products from steel and one of the largest steel stampers in the world.
Nephew former Georgia Pacific Building material Rep laid off 2004 works for them now loves it.
My cousin retired from them and he enjoyed his time there.
It not all rainbow and sunshine. They treat their employees well. They had good and bad years along some layoffs. The company tries not to overhire to reduce layoffs. They treat their people good and you will see a lot of people like working for them have a good quality of life. You have a lot of women work on the line in plants that work part time to have off in the summer with their kids. They have a lot of college kids working for them and only require they find someone to split schedules if they work part time. They try to work with their employees to keep good talent which is hard.

How many of those people thought they had a career but were just rudely told they don’t anymore? You don’t know how long some of them had worked there for, I would wager some have worked there for decades, does that not qualify as a career? Not to mention paper will probably still be made they are just going to outsource those jobs to India or China where they can pay their workers slave wages.

So the announcement was that this was market related...
Did they recently lose any big contracts?
As of the last year, they were making all the GP branded products (Spectrum, angel soft, brawny etc) plus Kirkland (Costco) and Members Mark (Sams) printer paper, toilet paper and paper towels among many other brand names.... something had to have happened recently
They were still making a shite load of office/ fine paper products

What you are smelling is the Paper Mill in St. Francisville. Which is still currently stinking.
I've never understood exactly what makes a paper mill smell so terribly. Nothing about trees and paper says "smells like skunk that's been dead a month's a-hole" but somehow they produce that smell en masse

My guess is they’re tired of dealing with the union. Shut it down and run the union off then reopen as a non union plant in a couple, three years. Sucks, but sometimes it’s the only way.

I was talking about a much bigger goose in Baton Rouge that the TBR terrorists are specifically targeting. Today’s reports from The Advocate were inspiring. One on how while the nation’s economy is soaring, Louisiana’s is lagging behind. Under 8 years of Obama, the US lost 286,000 manufacturing jobs, in a little over 2 years of The Donald, we’ve gained 446,000 manufacturing jobs. Meanwhile, Governor Honor Code has raised taxes by $7 BILLION a year in his 3 years in office and the number of projects has dropped (by72%) and population has fled the state (by 28,000). And it’s not the non-producers leaving, they are gobbling up all JBE can feed them.
Meanwhile, LSU has estimated that the job losses at GP will have a ripple effect of 2800 jobs in the BR lost. But by all means, let’s just keep merrily taxing the largest employer in our area, surely they won’t leave. It’s not like they could take their projects to another state or anything.

Some of the residuals combined with the waste products from the wood digestion process to make pulp are what stink so bad. There's a lot of different mercaptans and foul condensates in those process streams after the wood chips are digested.
