I work there and we were told about our circumstances in a 10:30 meeting this morning.
Unfortunately, the news had already broken and was on WAFB and other sites even before we received official word.
I've been there 18 years and am 57.
It's going to be really tough.

Sure, he just has to compete with the other 700 people now looking for work at the same nearby places

There is tons of work going on right now, get in on the new construction and go work for a contractor. Billions being spent by owners around here

Well, I haven't officially lost my job yet. My department is remaining. How it will be staffed is yet to be determined.

That's bullshite. Same thing happened to me and 600 people heading to work Oct 2008.

Fox news van was outside the gates. Found out before the official word.

There are lots of things yet to be determined. The company is working with the union and some details will come out in 2-3 days.

Never met a 3rd hand who didn't like bullshitting with the backtender getting his coffee whilst the 4th/5th hand did his job for a few.

Good on you.

Oh I know, I work in the O&G industry. I was just saying that it likely won't be as easy as just sending in an application and getting brought on somewhere

It is easy to blame the Manager. The guy running things is always blamed. But, as Warren Buffet says

"When a management with a reputation for brilliance tackles a business with a reputation for bad economics, it is the reputation of the business that remains intact."

They didn't recently acquire the damn business, they've owned it for years, operated it effectively and then "Brilliance" started driving the ship. "Brilliance" is very good word to describe this guy He was so f'ing "brilliant" I just knew I was missing the correct adjective

He was so f'ing "brilliant" he issued an edict to not allow any visitors (vendors or corporate help) without his approval because he trusted no one...."BRILLIANT"
