Domino’s Pizza: Market leader with over 30% of fast-food pizza sales and roughly 7,000+ U.S. locations.
Pizza Hut: Ranked second with 14.8% share (2024), struggling with declining sales and planning to close underperforming locations.
Little Caesars: Highly competitive in the value segment, representing about 13% of top-chain sales.
Papa John’s: Holds a significant share, with over $3.7 billion in 2024 sales.

Key Trends
Dominance of Big Four: Domino's, Pizza Hut, Little Caesars, and Papa John's dominate, though independent pizzerias make up a large portion of total outlets.
Market Stagnation: The fast-food pizza market saw minimal growth (0.1%) in 2025, largely due to consumer stress and competition from DoorDash/Uber Eats.
Looks like Papa John’s in running in 4th place which isn’t good. Also looks like overall the fast food pizza market is over saturated and experiencing little growth.

There used to be a little Caesars near me and I would get it every once in a blue moon and it wasn't bad either.. For the price.

I don’t think there are any real ingredients in their pizzas. It’s all processed or fake.

Finally some good news regarding places getting shut down. Papa John's is pure mother fricking garbage.

This is a perfect description. I remember being in a 5th grade pizza party thinking it was flavorless.

Ever seen the ingredient profile and macros on it? It’s a health catastrophe
I chose that intentionally. But I absolutely claim those little tubs of death first and soak the inedible PapaJ crust in it when it gets ordered at work. It’s un replicated and delicious

I find it odd that they are only closing franchise-owned stores. Seems like franchises would be a no-risk proposition for them and that’s the stores they would want to keep….

“Negative four wall income “. Don’t you just love corporate speak.

The “day of reckoning” has come and “the record will be set straight” as the true Papa John has prophesied

This was after the first time they supposedly changed their recipe I remember thinking.. How does that happen. It was a tasteless pizza.

At a full service restaurant price for at home pizza.
You have to shop the deals and use their rewards program, and it's not expensive at all.
Also, someone mentioned Door Dash drivers. Many locations still employ their own drivers, such as my location. I can't imagine having to deal with the trashy reefer addicts that run Door Dash. That would be a deal breaker for me.
I worked at Papa John's store #420 during college break in the 90's. The pizza today isn't as good, but nothing is as good as it was in the 90's. Nothing is even as good as 2019. The China Virus Paranoia Panic lowered standards on everything.

Agreed. It's way better than Papa John's or Pizza Hut to me these days.
My dad was once assigned to Dominos world HQ in Ann Arbor. He told me that they had test kitchens and was constantly trying out new pizzas, new ingredients, and experimenting and if you were there you were allowed to eat the test pizzas and give feedback, but you couldn't take anything out or take pictures or tell people in detail what the new stuff they were trying.

Brother, I was just pondering this the other day. Even Subway was good in the 90’s. I am so lucky I got to live my teenage/High School years in the 90’s. Everything was fricking cheap and awesome. Didn’t matter what it was. Papa John’s, McDonalds, Subway, Spring Break, gasoline, Beer, Liquor, Drugs etc all insanely cheap. I can remember ordering $12 of Taco Bell and it being enough to feed an obese family

It's still good, but is a pale imitation to what it was when they first started serving it.

Of the Big 3, Dominos is definitely the best today IMO. Crazy to say considering how awful it used to be.
Papa Johns and Pizza Hut are a shell of what they were in the 90s. Both suck.
I actually like Little Caesars. I know it's poor quality stuff, but damn if their crazy bread and sauce isn't fricking delicious. And their pan pizza is solid. Its a "it's so bad it's good" kinda thing.
Donatos and Jets are the best big chain places we have here in Lexington. Not sure if y'all have them in Louisiana. Donatos is based out of Ohio and Jets out of Michigan so may not be all the way South.
We have Marcos but Ive never tried it. Papa Murphys is good, but most people don't feel like picking up a pizza they have to heat up at their prices.
Grimaldis and Pies & Pints would be my favorite sit down places.
Joe Bolognas is a Lexington/UK institution if y'all find yourselves in Lexington for a game and want sit down pizza/Italian.
