Are you or have you considered taking zinc or any other appetite stimulant?

Will, wasn't your Dad battling cancer too?

A long time ago. Prostate. Probably one of the best one's to have as long as it is caught early.

He's fine now.

I have considered it but the problem is if I eat a lot it comes back up. It is just going to take time. Problem is when chemo starts that will add to the nausea problem. Doctor says I am losing too much weight.

Congrats friend!!! I honestly looked for this thread each day. Even though I have heard from you I knew the day you felt well enough to do an OT update yourself would be a milestone.

Hello dear. Did I not respond to your last email? I am sorry, I thought I had. It has been a rollercoaster good day, bad day - you know how it goes. Hubby went offshore Thursday so I am on my own. Luckily food is not important so all is good.

Thanks for the update and keep up the good fight. A guy here in our office had the Whipple in Jan 2015 and he is still here and battling. His was never as clean as yours, and he has been through a lot but he's still here - he actually looks really good lately. He just celebrated a another wedding anniversary and watches his daughter get older each day. He has a super attitude and takes it one day and one victory at a time. Prayers that you have a great result from here on out.

Hey your are alive from a cancer survivor!

Is Chemo worse than surgery? Yes!!!!

Will you have down days especially in the beginning when they try to regulate the side effects of chemo? Yes, but hang in there!

Will you lose appetite? Yes but once your body adjust it will come back.

Hair falls out? In pieces or spots along with eye lashes. They come back do not sweat it that small stuff!

If you have to do the lumbar puncture to put the chemo in the spine opt for the tube in the head!!!!!! Don't man this one out the lumbar puncture sucks take the thing in your head!!!

Did I hate the dual port in my chest? Ohhh yeah it sucked having to put plastic wrap over it and change your dressing after a workout!

I did inpatient chemo and thought I could outsmart my doctor. I refused physical therapy and doctor cut my food off, put a stationary bike in my room, and said if I cannot ride the bike I cannot eat. I did physical therapy after that!

Did I have bad days? Yes and good days.
My Chemo would go down while in the hospital on avg 2 weeks and always toward the weekend. They would release me on Fri. I would ride the weekend out in the condo and on Monday my counts were back up. First two treatments I went back in the hospital for anemia for a few days. After that I was good.

The shot that you take to get your white blood cells back up. Yes, it kicks in. When it does your hips will vibrate out of control the first time or two and scare you. After a few times you know what to expect.

Can you handle it? Yes
Will you have to adjust? Yes
6 months is not bad and it will fly by and good luck!

Drink a lot of water to flush your system of the chemo and walk a lot. Don't worry if you have to wear a mask in public, grab on a shopping cart, and walk through a grocery store for exercise do it. Most stores have AC and wide aisle to walk.

Hey Johnny thanks for the kind words of encouragement and support. I have already had chemo for 6 months when I was diagnosed. I also had 28 rounds of radiation while taking one of the strongest forms of oral chemo (that chemo kicked my arse). I then had surgery and now I have to face yet another 6 months of chemo. I am not sure what you are referring to about your ports - I have a mediport but it is under my skin - nothing is exposed. You might feel chemo is worse then surgery but I have to disagree with you (except the oral chemo). This was a very intensive surgery - in fact I was told it is the longest & most complicated surgery done at that hospital.
You just get to the point of wondering. How much is too much? No matter what I am going to die from PC - when do you say enough?
