Because I looked at this thread this ad for amazon popped up.

I just thought it was ridiculous.

That's the best looking bezel I've ever seen on a Rolex.

Rubber actually works extremely well. Holds up perfectly. I have spent tens of thousands of hours sweating profusely and constantly moving with a rubber strap. Zero failures or problems.

It's not the rubber that you should be worried about. It's the springbar that will fail on you. They are generally very crappy. I often replace mine with sturdy springbars.

I'd get a B-Uhr flieger from Laco. Badass steel case designed by some Germans.

Damn. I'm finally going back to read all of this thread. We both recommended a B-uhr?

I thought you were just going for one from a more reliable source...though Laco seems to have a presence on eBay somehow.

No I was just recommending what I thought would work for him. Then I got home from work and read the whole thread. And you recommended the same style. Very weird

Yea, I don't like the rivets at all...they don't even match the finish of the case. If you're going to add detail do it right.

Yeah, that has largely colored my impression of the style I think, hah.

Yours is a great looking watch. I also think it helps to have only the hours vs hours & minutes... watch face is much less busy. Did that watch come stock with the deployant clasp? Been looking to find a few for some different watches that didn't have them.

Still can't make up my mind if I want this watch or not:

Love the strap and the bezel but on the fence on the somewhat weird hour/minute hands and indicators. Might have waited a little too long as it was about $150 cheaper a couple of days ago.

Would be a good complement to another in the regular rotation for me:

While we've got a watch thread going, the soon to be Mrs. Fibonaccisquared would like to get me another watch as a gift for the wedding but wants to engrave something. Anyone have any thoughts on a watch that would do well for engraving? I actually just saw that Stowa offers engraving on the rotor itself which would be kind of cool to still have exhibition caseback with engraving internally but really hadn't given any thought to it before.

Was just thinking the same. Sans the logo, that's a great looking Rolex... super retro.

Check it out with a band... LINK

The metal Domino's logo... too much.

Stowa's deployant has their name and logo on the clasp, I just got it at the same time of purchase.

I'd get the rotor engraved, that would've a cool touch. Yours forever. Wait times can be a bitch through Stowa, I think it took 3 months for mine.

Just the hours is an A type flieger...and their sterile, no logo, is an amazing watch. Blued hands, you have to decide on crown as well.

My next one will be the 41mm 6498 with no second hand.

Back to the OP... this guy makes some pretty cool watches... not a fan of the "deal of the day" today, but just in case you are, $100 automatic with a miyota movement is not bad. LINK
"Open Heart" design not my favorite. Also, I hate their brand name. Wish they would just use the logo and leave the name off...

How difficult and/or how much would it cost to replace the dial on that. The more I look at it, that's my main complaint. $100 dress beater could be ok. Would that be a shitty groomsman's gift? Better or worse than like an engraved flask or something of that nature?

nvm... just realized it's 50mm. Somehow missed that. It's a monster.

I'm still not a fan of NATO straps
I love them. They are easy to clean, offer some safety to your watch and can be dressy or casual depending on color combos.

do yall cut the small strap off your natos so that they resemble the single strap zulus? i don't like the way the natos look when folded into the hardware on the top side of the wrist, right above the watch face. it looks bulky to me. like this:

by cutting the smaller strap, you can mount the watch further down on the main strap, and the hardware will move to the backside of your wrist, instead of right above the watch.

so why not just buy zulu straps then? isn't that exactly what a zulu strap is? yes, but i prefer the thinner, squared off hardware of the nato. also, natos are much more popular than zulus, so it's easier to find different colors and styles.

Seiko Monster is a dressy dive watch

Sorry, but there is nothing "dressy" about a monster and yes I had one. It's too clunky to wear with anything resembling formal attire. The watch IMO is so ugly it looks good and I sold it after it didn't grow on me like many claim it will. With that said it's a great watch for the money.

My everyday watch from 2003-2014 was a Seiko orange monster, it's a beast. I didn't start really caring about watches until the last couple of years.

I wore my orange mosnter with my tux in my wedding, probably wouldn't do that today.

It's a great watch, just didn't do it for me like I hoped.
