So in that song. When he was naming cities I always thought he said "the heart of rock and roll is in Cleveland ".
So when they got the rock and roll hall of fame I just figured they were the center of Rock and I just didn't know it.
It's "still beating"

Rizzo mentions Bossier City in an episode of MASH
And pronounces it correctly!

Among other reasons mentioned, the PMAC was a big stop for artists in the 70’s and 80’s, it was considered a state of the art music venue at the time.

Is New York not a city?
What about Chicago?

Rappers sing about it but it’s more the culcha than the location. I’m sorry I know that btw

She drove a pick-up truck
Painted green and blue
The tires were wearing thin
She turned a mile or two
When I asked her where she headed for
"Back up to Boston I'm singing in a bar"
I got to fly today on down to Baton Rouge
My nerves are shot already
The road ain't all that smooth
Across in Texas is the rose of San Antone
I keep on a feeling that's gnawing in my bones
Painted green and blue
The tires were wearing thin
She turned a mile or two

Artist that mention Baton Rouge in at least one song:
Huey Lewis
Kenny Chesney
Garth Brooks
Janis Joplin
Lou Reed
Oak Ridge Boys
Tom Petty
Waylon Jennings
Carrie Underwood
Better than Ezra
Jordan Davis
I can’t think of any others…but my guess is that it is a popular feature in lyrics because it’s unique phonetically. It’s big enough where it’s known to many, but not so big where a huge number of people have developed an opinion on it - so it retains a certain mystery. It can be the subject of a country song, rock n roll, blues, or hip hop given the location, time, and culture.
Janis Joplin probably made it a cool city to feature in lyrics.

Baton Rouge gets a shout out in both of these songs.
Dustin Lynch - Thinking Bout You
It's in the chorus of this song that was popular on the radio in the last year or two.
Pat Green - All Just to Get to You
Dustin Lynch - Thinking Bout You
It's in the chorus of this song that was popular on the radio in the last year or two.
quote:
I was just thinkin' 'bout that weekend out on Cumberland Lake
And that one time in Baton Rouge when we made out in the rain
Where we went chasin' fallin' stars on a hill at your daddy's farm
Don't be sorry for callin' me up out of the blue
I was was just thinkin' 'bout you
I was just thinkin' 'bout you
Pat Green - All Just to Get to You
quote:
I have run from St. Paul
To Wichita Falls
Call'd you from sunny Baton Rouge
Hocked everything
From my watch to my ring
All just to get to you
