Owning pets is one of the most rewarding but hard things in life

Tonight I had to rush our cat to the ER. Turns out he’s in heart failure and they give him 6 months to a year (best case scenario) I know cats get a lot of hate but my Graham is special to me. He’s always there to jump up and lay in my lap every single time I watch TV. He’s got a unique meow that I’ve never heard from a cat before. We weren’t able to have any more kids after my 11 year old son and he’s the closest thing he’s had to a brother. He’s feeling crushed. I never thought I’d be so sad for an animal(he’s our first). I see the threads on here all the time about having to say goodbye to your best furry buddies. I knew this day would come but didn’t think so soon. He’s at medvet in Metairie to see the cardiologist tomorrow but the diagnosis is pretty much 100%. This fricking sucks. He’s only 5 years old and he’s been the perfect pet. I’m torn the frick up.

My dog came up paralyzed in his back legs Feb of this past year. Yelped everytime he moved an inch. Rushed him to a vet ER in West Monroe. Vet said he would never walk again normally and asked if I wanted to put him down. Told him I wanted to get a second opinion.
Glad I did. Talked to my vet. He did ER vets get it wrong way too much. He had my dog walking in 3 months. Now he's fine.
I say all that to say I hope the ER was wrong and you get some better news from the other doctor tomorrow.

We have another cat and a dog too. Our other cat is going to be so lonely. They are close. We hit the pet lottery 3 times. They’re all amazing

The most rewarding commitments I've had in my lifetime. Letting them go with dignity is a testament to character,

Pets are real, humans are fake.

I question my sanity sometimes when dealing with the heartbreak of losing a canine member of the family but they are wonderful to have around.

They might be able to control the heart failure with medicine. Mine was given 6 months to a year but ended up living for almost another decade. Don’t give up. Hang in there. Hoping for the best for y’all.

I hear you man, heck our rooster is sick right now and even though I'm the only one that likes the bastard the whole family is kinda bummed.

Pets are awesome. In the smokies now with my dogs and we are having a blast together.

If angels are real, they come to us as dogs.

Sorry man - you are exactly right - so sad when our buddies decline… it’s the worst

Cats are awesome. Sorry to hear about your friend.

The OP is right, they bring us much pleasure and companionship but the end of life decisions are tough. I had to put down several in my lifetime, all but 1 was 14 years old or older (all labs). Earlier this year I had to put down an 8 year old when, severe disc injury and tumor on his spine; that one hurt the worst. At this moment I’m getting ready to bring my 5 year old Chocolate to the surgeon for ligament surgery.

Don't worry about that. Cats are awesome and people who ate them are fricking stupid.
Sorry about your boy too. Losing a pet is rough, especially on kids. I had two cats for like 13/14 years or so and lost both within months of each other. That shite was rough.

The time it takes for our adopted dog keeps me out of a lot of trouble.

I will be finding out soon what you mean. I will be getting a standard tricolor bernedoodle pup in December and it will be my first dog ever. Looking for recs on gear (collars, beds, etc). Is per insurance worth it?

Feeling this today. We’re waiting for bone biopsy results to come back on our 11 year old Tuxedo cat, Professor Pierre. He has a growth in his cheek that started causing gum issues. The vet initially thought cancer but after doing a scope wasn’t sure and wanted to verify. If it isn’t cancer the next step is a CT to see if what we’re dealing with is something that can be treated. If it’s cancer, we’ll have to start making an end of life plan.
He is the sweetest, most docile cat I’ve ever seen. It’s been miserable to see him deal with the symptoms.
