Overwhelming our healthcare system.

A huge reason for all of the measures seems to be to not “overwhelm our healthcare system”, but with hospitals and doctor offices seeing way less patients during this time, what danger is our healthcare system in to be overwhelmed when the current restrictions are lifted? I have to believe there is a huge back log of patients to be seen, surgeries to be had, etc.

They may be seeing less patients now but they're spending an inordinate amount of time doing dances and waving at people in the parking lot which is something they didn't have to do before the virus.

But not all at the same time, and have to think the pressure is mounting, especially considering without quality preventive care during this time, routine issues may become larger ones that require emergency care later.

The neat thing about elective and non-emergent procedures is that they can wait.

It is emergencies.

Shutting down all hospital functions outside of critical care/emergency will probably have effects.

there is/are. I've also seen posts claiming layoffs at hospitals and testing centers because of all the cancellations and focus on Covid.
Safe to say many things were done, that shouldn't have been.

The hospital my wife works for started rescheduling those procedures that were cancelled a month ago. I think they plan to start brining those rescheduled people in at the end of next week...slowly.

A lot of them are doing them over the phone now in our area. My wife had a Cardiology and OBGYN appointment over the phone. It's crazy how quick these visits were when you didn't have to wait around for the Dr.

What about people that would have gone to get test done during this time that would have caught a potential serious issue early, but now will create a big and costly issue because it wasn’t caught early?

My kid fell off his bike yesterday and busted his jaw. Took him to the ER because the doc doesn't do face scans. Only person in the ER, still took 4 hours.

Surgery and Surgery centers will be overwhelmed once the restrictions on electives are raised. Most of those places already had booked or overbooked surgery blocks. Now add all the patients that have to be rescheduled.

Sounds like the kind of thing that's still happening. They haven't shut down healthcare for only covid treatment.
