Makeshift morgue set up in St. Gabriel, La. to handle 140 bodies per day
That morgue was set up directly behind my father's business. He said there were 18 wheelers coming all day long to off load bodies.

Yea, that makes sense. Friday night was when we found out
I found out at around 900 am Saturday morning listening to WWL Radio red fishing south of Houma. I didnt have time to get back to my house, my wife had to pack everything up and evacuate alone with our 10 month old son. the last time I saw my house was when I left for work Friday morning..my life was never the same after that day.

Yup. If they'd been republicans the storm wouldn't have even dared come here.

Does this number account for the Chris Kyle snipings that took place off the top of the dome?

I would assume it did. Those bodies were picked up, bullets removed and traced to the gov't appointed shooter and quietly and handled in private hearing the public being none the wiser.

We can't wait at least a couple more weeks for these threads? I know they are bound to happen, but let's just wait till the last week in August...

I feel bad for the NOFD guys who were doing body recoveries for months after the hurricane. Imagine THAT job - you go to a house that has been underwater so the contents (and rotting wet food) are all over the house, covered in layers of mud and trying to find a decomposing body under all that while fighting heat, rats and roaches. That went on for months. The NOFD did so much more than you ever hear about.

New Orleans wasn't lucky. Katrina wasn't a Category 5 hitting the "sweet spot." It was a Category 3 at landfall, and it hit Mississippi.
My grandfather was one of those 1800. He was evacuated from Mercy Hospital (where he was told to stay for the storm as he was recovering from a fairly minor surgery) and dropped off on I-10 in Jefferson Parish. He died on the interstate waiting for rescue.

estimated death toll for a Cat 5 getting New Orleans with it's sweet spot was 25,000 to 100,000
Good thing a Cat 5 getting New Orleans with it's sweet spot didn't happen. It's been 10 years and the SE coast of MS that was actually hit with the sweet spot is finally starting to get back on its feet.

Katrina wasn't a Cat 5 when it made landfall.
Posted on 8/9/15 at 12:25 pm to tgrbaitn08
Yep .. made landfall as a cat 3 storm .. but Mississippi definitely got cat 5 storm surge from it ..
Posted on 8/9/15 at 12:28 pm to tgrbaitn08
Thank God... But it was a strong 3, just under a 4...
Like mentioned, it still had a Cat 5 surge...

I can name some that should have been in that number. Many will disagree, but it was probably one of the best thingsthat could have happened to new Orleans. I understand many lost everything, however the federal money would have never come into the city if Katrina would not have happened and it was and is despretly needed

Everyone on the planet except for Noah and his family died during the Biblical flood. fricking think about that for a second.
Posted on 8/9/15 at 12:31 pm to Hangover Haven
Yep. It was bad for New Orleans and Mississppi. Could have been worst. Still was not worst case scenario.

There were around 2,000,000 casualties in the battle of Stalingrad.
Think about THAT for a second.
