Yeah the surge was one of the worst, maybe the worst, to ever hit the US.

The fish bite the best right before a storm. Everyone knows that.
When we rolled out at 5 am Saturday morning they still weren't sure where it was going. It's was still 48 hours out. The plan was to fish then head straight back to NOLA that afternoon and see what the storm was going to do and if we need to Evac then we would. Well, we heard the Gov and Nagin on WWL Saturday morning, that plan had changed. I called my wife and she was already packing up. I didn't get to make it back to the city until Sept 9th.

I still remember all of the crazy threads on here before, during, and after the storm .. the rumors were unreal .. people claiming there were people raping women and rioting in downtown BR and crap was terrible ..

You're right, I made a pointless trip to New Orleans because no one had concerns it was coming to NOLA.
Like every storm, there are multiple theories as to where the storm is going, NOAA wasn't the only source out there. In this case, there was fear building of a New Orleans hit, apparently legitimate.
I remember thinking it was pointless because the business had fear they would get water and our job was to redirect to prevent this from happening. We did the job, left Friday afternoon in pretty heavy traffic because people were getting out.

Yeah, some of that shite was funny.
Still remember one of my older family members telling me not to stop in Kenner because the gangs were tanking over. This was two weeks after the storm.

I do remember having a shotgun by my front door because it was impossible to tell fact from fiction.
So much shite was being said with nothing backing it, but I think there was panic and fear that couldn't get some to disbelieve the stories.

The NOLA stories/rumors on here were off the charts, obviously .. over here .. there was a thread about some Entergy female worker being raped and street thugs just roaming around downtown BR .. Sure, some of the robbery stuff was true and there was a spike in crime .. but the rumors were out of control .. It was a good thing we had the pic of the famous beer looter to lighten things up ..

No, I got better things to do with my life. Katrina was a disaster and tragedy but it was 10 years ago. Like everything else you have to learn from it and fix the mistakes if you can or do your best to not make them again and then move on with your life.

Sure did .. police were everywhere, looking around for a riot .. I was still working downtown at that time .. everyone was looking out of windows looking for the riot that wasn't going on .. I think two homeless people got into a fight and they though it was a riot ..

The smell of the decaying and rotting flash was something u that will stay with people that were there always. and the sense of sadness and lose.
We had dozens of elderly people that died within 6 months of the storm who were healthy before. They all lost everything.
Most of my friends etc, moved. Business collapsed, people committed suicide, marriages collapse, alcohol and drug use spiked. Good fricking times.

Everyone I heard had died and they found the body, etc was ok. Even the ones the cops and Doctors told me were dead. When you lose all communication it is bizzare
