Outside salespeople questions

Kind of a Q&A, for those willing to participate.
Outside or inside?
Did you have experience using or expertise in the products beforehand? Any networking with potential clients?
Did you begin with clients or have to build from the ground up?
If starting at 0 clients..how did you go about beginning to get your product in the clients hands? Small at first or all the way?
Any techniques you've learned or seen to change customers minds from what they're currently using to beginning business with you?
How many visits or meetings did you have with a prospect before they were fully committed?
How long before you achieved the sales goal you set for yourself?

why are you asking these questions

School project? Seems like an odd bunch of questions. Guy needs to buy a business book.

Most of those questions will have different answers depending on the product sold. An IT technology salesperson has to have a completely different strategy than a person selling gauges to chemical plants and engineers...

Rule 1 of any outside sales:
Bombard prospective clients with survey style "shotgun probing" questions until they weaken. Then you go in for the hard close. Get ready, TD. Hard close is coming

You don't think psychology plays a part in sales?
Someone that sells the most IT software wouldn't be able to sell gauges?

I can offer a 5% discount on sales amounting to 30k+ a year, because we've worked together in the past so well.

It depends on what you sell what you can do. I was a global key account manager in my last sales job before moving to business development. Maybe you should start with what you plan on selling.

You can get a good look t a t-bone by sticking your head up a bulls arse but wouldn’t you rather take the butchers word

Ask your outside sales manager these same questions.
That's why he's there. Unless he's like the one where I used to work.

Some of these questions are only going to be able to be answered in general. For the most part, it depends on the product. And unless you depend strictly on cold calls.. and even then, you will have to develop some type of network. That's a key point of sales.
You would probably be better off reading a few books.
