Outrage Prediction: UNC Tar Heels

Will UNC be the next to bow?
The term “tar heel” dates back to North Carolina’s early history, when the state was a leading producer of supplies for the naval industry. Workers who distilled turpentine from the sticky sap of pine trees and burned pine boughs to produce tar and pitch often went barefoot during hot summer months and undoubtedly collected tar on their heels. To call someone a “rosin heel” or “tar heel” was to imply that they worked in a lowly trade.
During the Civil War, North Carolina soldiers flipped the meaning of the term and turned an epithet into an accolade. They called themselves “tar heels” as an expression of state pride.

Don't know if they'll change that or not but that University is as liberal as any in the South and likely top 10 in the country... The thought that comes out of there is disgusting.

I fail to to see where outrage could come from that, but then when I consider recent events, I’m sure they’ll find a way.

If a Civil War soldier took pride in it, there has to be a problem with it followed by outrage, followed by a “conversation”, a protest, a turned over statue, a burnt building and then a change in mascot.

Maybe UNC figures that being the home base of Swahili (the language) self taught two year course will protect them. It has so far (say the BB fans).

^ This. Last year when they took issue with one of the statues on campus and at one of the protests they were chanting "Black lives matter, blue lives splatter"

I always thought it was because they were dipped in tar and only their heel was left uncovered where they were held.
