Because that’s how infectious disease spreads.
It didn’t just magically appear in the US. Someone from an infected area brought it here.
So, if someone from New Orleans, which would maybe remain shut down, has the virus but is asymptomatic, and decides to move to Lafayette in order to work because they’re not shut down, the disease just spread to Lafayette and that one person could have just fricked a whole city depending upon who he interacts with.

That's what they are citing. But I'd bet most people on this forum are against wage/benefit increases for workers. You're not going to convince me Johnny random-OT-poster actually cares about a waitress in New Orleans or Hackensack. At least, not more so than they care about their own bottom line.

This sounds great until people realize DRL is partially measured in human life.

It causes a statistically significant increase in medical-related death, suicides, crime, among other factors.
This is a rock and a hard place argument, but I would rather give 99% of Americans a fighting chance while doing the most that we can to help the 1% who will likely be affected by the virus.
