“This is a big deal for our community and the nearly one million people who live and work in the region,” said Catherine O’Neal, MD, chief medical officer at Our Lady of the Lake. “A Level 1 trauma center designation means Our Lady of the Lake has the resources and care needed before, during and after a trauma event. Our trauma center saves countless lives every year, and I am extremely proud of the dedication and hard work that our trauma team provides day in and day out. We have the best physicians, nurses and partners to care for our community.”
Representing the highest possible level for a hospital trauma center, the ACS dictates a Level 1 trauma center have the leadership and total care for every aspect of an injury, from prevention through rehabilitation. The designation combines acute care responsibilities with leadership in education, research and system planning — a responsibility that extends beyond Our Lady of the Lake to all the surrounding hospitals in the region.

As the city’s top ranked U.S. News & World Report hospital, Our Lady of the Lake also boasts a top-notch emergency department at the forefront of its trauma program.
“The quality of our emergency department nurses, physicians and processes equate to fast response times and a high level of care when it matters the most,” said Tomas Jacome, MD, medical director of the Our Lady of the Lake Trauma Center. “We’ve had the volume of a Level 1 center for some time, but now we’ve added the research and education systems to truly set this center apart ensuring our community is cared for when they need it the most.”

They've had a lot of gunshot wound practice.

Meh, what changed? They hit the designation on paper for as long as I can remember.

The Bitch by the Ditch is a solid hospital with an awesome staff. They took good care of my dad when his appendix ruptured.
It’s also fricking huge, with over 1,000 beds. Bigger than the main Northwestern hospital in downtown Chicago….and every bit as confusing to walk around.

This is that Covid fear monger.
I really wish that we had seen the last of her.

The Medicaids will be ecstatic.
Bring me to the Baton Rouge General with the rest of the insured.

It's like back in the day. I told my family to always take me to OLOL unless I was shot / stabbed or OD'ed. Then off to EKL!
Now it's the General unless and then OLOL.

Well, a steady flow of TRAUMA is a good place for a Level 1 TRAUMA Center. How do u train good surgeons? Bring them to a military hospital in a war zone, or a shithole city with a lot of ghetto trauma like Baton Rouge.

Just like Grey Sloane Memorial Hopital

?? the ghetto bums dont care where they get dropped off. You are just as likely to see ghetto thuggery in full display at BRG.

They close and open hospital wings all the time. They will combine two due to staffing issues then open one of them back up with even less staffing... It is all the BR area hospitals though. I would be shocked to walk one and not find a few halls empty right now.

They were a level 1 according to the state. Now they are a level 1 according to the American college of surgeons, the governing body to ensure quality metrics in these institutions. It is incredibly hard to be ACS level 1 verified…my hospital/we have our visit in February, after 2 consultation visits.
