Me and some buddies horsed around with some law enforcement grade pepper spray one day after some light drinking , and my experience was that shite would not have deterred me. It took several minutes before I started feeling inconvenienced by it.

On another occasion, I chased after some guy after witnessing someone getting pepper sprayed in New Orleans. I was younger, fitter, and still deluded by a feeling of invincibility. I don’t know whether he was running away from the person who sprayed him or if he was running from me. But he did not seem to be affected at all. Eventually he stopped running and decided to confront me. I could tell he was slightly affected. But just before we locked up, he dropped to his knees and asked for help, a hose pipe or anything. About that time, an armed officer showed up and took over. I found a nearby hose and sprayed the guy after he was cuffed. He seemed eager for relief.

The point is, don’t expect pepper spray to do much more than agitate someone.

Something else I learned and maybe this is the most important part, is that pepper spray needs to be shaken before use. Otherwise your first few blast might be more propellant than OC, leading to it being not as impactful.

She has (at times) a gun in her car, but finds her self in situations, more often than not, where it’s not feasible to carry a gun.
As some have mentioned, a gun can be a liability, especially if digging it out of a purse. I like her having a gun in the car in the case of a breakdown or accident involving some bad actors.

The idea of what happened to the Fletcher woman happening to my daughter, scares me to death.
She’s smart and savvy and I hope I’ve taught her well, but we live in an increasingly frightening, violent world where it’s becoming harder and harder to stay safe.

Pepper sprays and non-lethals are the way to go. Everyone eill say a gun but most women will not train and if you shoot someone you have legalities to deal with. I woukd also recommend bjj with some Krav sprinkled in

Sorry, but your daughter sounds like the typical ignorant young woman who thinks “It won’t happen to me” moron.

I’m sure the woman that was just kidnapped and murdered thought the same thing. Get pics of crime scene murders of women and show her. Tell her as you show her each picture, “She didn’t think it would happen to her! She didn’t think it would happen to her! She didn’t think it would happen to her!”

So many people dont take this into account especially when recommending a gun. If someone gets the drop on you its hard for anyone to use a firearm effectively.
