We had something like 3,000 or so case confirmed fatalities in an entire year from H1N1 (April 2009 to April 2010; later revised to more than 12,000), despite being pretty much in the original epicenter (technically in Mexico).

What are you talking about? We flipped out absolutely for both. It was a nightly news headliner for months.

SARS in particular, in spite of it never coming to the US.


There was a LOT of apprehension demonstrated for both. It only faded compared to COVID-19 because in the case of SARS it was contained and never became a global pandemic, and in the case of H1N1 in 2009 it had scary initial indications but rapidly turned out to be not more lethal than the seasonal flu.

I mean you have been reporting on the cases, hospitalizations, and deaths in the nursing home (or assisted living facility) that you work at.

From the last update in the PT thread, 6 residents had died and 6 more were hospitalized out of 50 total cases.

Have you ever experienced anything like that before? If not, why would you wonder why this is different?
