Stop sucking big pharma dick and always look to find solutions in a pill. To quote Vito Corleone “You can act like a man!” and get your shite right.

I took 50mg of diphenhydramine nightly for 2 years

Started suffering from memory loss more rapid than normal for my age

Found out it leads to being 6 X more likely to get early onset dementia

Haven’t taken one in over a year and doing much better now after struggling at first

For all the people that didn't read my other post, diphenhydramine hydrochloride is generic benadryl. It's also Unisom and ZZquil and the active sleep ingredient in Tylenol PM, etc.

It is absolutely linked to early onset dementia and short term memory loss. I take it fairly often and I'm trying hard to stop.

You may be overtraining

Yeah - everyone has their own. This was more sleep related as during a non-training cycle, I average around 25 miles a week. Seems to have no impact on sleep,

That’s still relatively high volume. You can definitely be overtrained (or more importantly, underecovered) at that mileage which certainly impacts sleep quality.

If needed, my first-line is L-Theanine 200-500mg works very well to ease stress and relax my mind. It’s a naturally occurring non-protein amino acid that is found in tea(and is ascribed to its calming effect)

L-Theanine is also a fantastic adjunct to caffeine for me, because it counteracts the caffeine jitters, and creates a synergistically improved focus that helps me get sh*t done.

I also occasionally utilize Melatonin 5-10mg as needed for sleep prior to night shifts. Name brand Nature Made definitely works better IME, sh*t SLAPS.

I work a weekly overnight swing-shift the day after my two consecutive day shifts, and melatonin ensures a restful 5 hour nap (12pm-5pm) prior to the night shift.

I don’t always require the melatonin as my body has become quite used to the rhythm of my work schedule, but I’m thankful that it’s there if I do need it.

The anticholinergic antihistamines e.g. diphenhydramine(zzzquil, et al.) and doxylamine(Unisom) leave me feeling groggy and gross, and there is some evidence that links them to memory issues and even Alzheimer’s. No thanks.

Unisom.

Currently formula is just benadryl,

Are you sure about this? Unisom is Doxylamine and Benadryl is Diphenhydramine.

Thanks for your opinion. I guess we all do different things and that is ok.

Of course, but lack of sleep, both duration and quality is quite literally the worst thing you can do for yourself. It kills you slowly both physically and mentally. If you aren’t sleeping well, that should be priority number one

OG unisom is doxylamine.

It’s best to not use those anticholinergic drugs on a regular basis. I find it’s better to be able to dose them really accurately to avoid being too drowsy. Liquid medications are easier to fine tune a dosage.

Honestly make sure you cut your stimulants (caffeine, nicotine, amphets, provigil, blow, chewing khat, etc). Back a little and consume them closer to getting up and up to lunch.

Remove the phone from the room. Read a book or listen to a book on a sleep timer. Ear plugs or some type of noise maker. If your white trash like me just set up a box fan 3 foot away. You can turn it off via a timer on a smart outlet.

With that being said, if you really want to sleep get some Xanax, a small dose of a tricyclic antidepressant (like doxepin or amitriptyline), some magnesium and rub one out.

Also seroquel if you are planning on losing a few days in a week. That stuff will make you hibernate.
