I know this doesn't answer the question, but it seems to me that you're trying to fit way too much into the trip. You'll be running around like a mad person, and will miss so much.

Itinerary?
What medium of transportation?
Total time?
Time between stops?

I've done two tours like this before. Sure, you are running around like a mad person at times, but I get to hit all the highlights. There is just enough free time to chill out and take it all in. I spent three hours in Piazza Navona in Rome just people watching and got lost in the alleys of Venice at 1 in the morning.
This is ok with me, because unless I win the lottery, I'll never make it back. My last tour, I hit 5 countries and 8 or 9 cities in 10 days. It was an absolute blast. I can sleep on the plane on the way home.

I don´t know about that. Seems to me the only advantage is you´re able to personally select the postcards you´ll send home from each stop.
I feel nervous and queasy just looking at those itineraries.

Skip Rome, add a day in Innsbruck, trade Lucerne for Munich (with an afternoon at Dachau) and this would be awesome.

Trip 1 unless you are a freak for all thing provincial French. The sights of Trip #1 are much more varied. The Rhine Valley is wonderful by small boat. The Swiss Alps will be cool too.
Re: Chunnel train trip
I had the rare pleasure of being a passenger on a Eurostar train which stopped in the Chunnel for what turned out to be an hour's delay after someone decided to smoke in the loo aboard, setting off every smoke detector on the train.

Well, it's amazingly easy to "take it all in" in a short period of time. I'm not talking about seeing all the sights. I'm talking about brief moments when you can stop and take in the fact that you are standing where Charlemagne was crowned Holy Roman Emperor, or in a gas chamber in Dachau, or on the Grand Canal in Venice. Or a tiny cafe sharing a glass of wine with a new friend in a tucked away no-name piazza. Or getting to pet a Royal Lipizzaner Stallion by mere chance because you happen to be passing their Viennese stables as they are being exercised.
That's what I mean by "taking it all in".

B
But I like to immerse myself when I travel. I'd rather take in all of one country rather than ADD it across a few.

The gas chamber in Dachau was a Natzi science project. Dachau wasn't a Death Camp.
The worst ovens and gas chambers were at the Death Camps....

I've done parts of both of your itineraries. France was cool, except for the Paris part. The people there were dicks and there was dog shite on every sidewalk, like minefields. Watch your step. The villages and smaller towns were great. The bakeries (patisseries) seem to have been the most consistently good food there, and were affordable. The American food in France was...just bad.
To me, London is just another big city with a different accent, but the whole England and Holland/Netherlands thing is nice overall. Amsterdam is a must - visit anytime!

Yes, I know. But it was still a Nazi gas chamber. There were still ovens.

I did trip A last year with the wife.
I get your point, but I'm going by myself. I'm not one of those people who walks into a room and has "a hundred friends". And that's where they all speak English.
Like I said, I've been on two tours like that and have made some lifelong friends. Visited four of them in Australia last year.

What does each trip cost?

Trip one for sure in y book. Hit up the Delerium Cafe in Brussels and My. Pilatus in Lucerne.

about $2000-2200 plus airfare.
Plus about another $200/day spending (to have a great time--may or may not include hookers and blow).
Can I do it for 2/3 or maybe even 1/2 the cost? sure. But if I do, I'll have to stay in lesser hotels out of the city centers, I'll have to arrange all of my transportation. All of my meals. All of my sightseeing. etc. etc. etc.
