How does the game work?
The good thing as previously mentioned is it gives you time to add to the timepiece budget.
But maybe the stars align and you walk out with something. It can happen.
ETA: 41 is pretty large for a woman. 36 works for a larger frame, 31 is a sweet spot and 28 for more petite ladies. IMHO

A few decades ago they were putting some low end Seiko (I think) movements in their watches and calling them in-house to a degree.
That is the Tag 1887/Seiko 6S37 issue from about 15 years ago. I wouldn't call the 6S37 architecture low-end by any means. It is a column wheel actuated chronograph which you will find in the architecture of all haute horlogerie brand chronographs (Lange, Patek, AP, Vacheron etc). A low end chrono architecture will be cam actuated like the movement in the venerable Speedmaster Professional for most of its like. They reduce parts count and make assembly easier. You can buy a new Speedy Pro with a column wheel cal. 321 if you are willing to spend the 15 grand.
Tag used the IP legitimately and changed a lot of little things about the movement but claimed it was 100% in-house. The issue is there are no rules for in-house and many or all companies play fast and loose with it at times. Given there are no set rules it is up to interpretation and every punter on every watch forum has their own set of criteria. I could make a set of rules that would defy calling Rolex and Seiko movements in-house and they are the two most vertically integrated (serial) watch manufacturers in the world. People hating on Tag is a sport on watch forums but they have built some respect over the last decade or so.

How often do you wind your watches? That seems like a lot to keep up with
I started out with a couple winder boxes back in the day and then moved on to regular watch boxes like obtuse although I'm a mere mortal and only have a peasant's collection.

I prefer the regular boxes by far.

Someone can do the math if they want to, but the current resale/auction value is more than that. The majority of the value is in 12 watches. Note I didn't go out of pocket for anything in the accumulation, every penny was made by buying and selling watches with the initial investment paid back to myself with interest. Also, that was luck, not prescience. If I tried to do it again or if I had tried to think it through the first time I would end up with a big hole in my wallet and a Flik Flak and a G-Shock 5600.

I have friends with literal walls of winders. It may be kinetic art but it is chaotic to me. I like being able to see them all without standing on the other side of the room. Plus it makes them easy to grab and run out of the house in a fire. Those friends would die in the fire playing the "no watch left behind" game.

I love my Omega Seamaster. You can get a new one in that price range from Joma Shop.

Thinking dress watch in the $2k-$4k range, preferably moonphase but not required.
The more I think about it the B et M Clifton hits those notes well and can be easily found in your budget and has various colorways and is available on strap or bracelet. The 42mm has the day @12 and the 39mm doesn't have the day. The 39mm would be a much better choice for most wrists.

I won't drone on about the movement but it is a very nice in-house movement with some interesting tricks up its sleeve including a 5 day power reserve.

She’s not a large lady at all. I thought the decision would be between a 31 and 36. She has a 28 (hand me down two tone dj ‘82 serial iirc) which is “too small”. She tried on the 31, 36, and the 41. 36 would be best but if a 41 came along she’d be happy with that as well. I see a lot of women wearing subs and GMTs which don’t look out of place.

I have been unable to talk myself into spending more than $1,500.00 on a watch despite how much I enjoy them.
Get a watch that costs more than $1500 if you can afford it and enjoy watches. You will not regret it. Unless you know about some reincarnation guarantee, this is the only shot you have at enjoying life and having things you enjoy.

By who?
It’s not a Rolex but I like it - wear it daily and get lots of compliments - even by friends that wear more expensive brands.
I’ll step up to either a Rolex Explorer II (white face) or a Batman GMT depending on what I can find.

Longines Zulu Time fits the bill in that budget. GMT/Date and not too overbearing under a cuff at 39mm.

Bought this watch about 6 months back which was recommended buy a bunch of the good people here on the OT as a daily driver. Could not be happier
I have this watch that I wear out but dont like to wear it everyday since I am pretty rough on things at work and its more expensive.
