She also shits once in a while on random spots on the floor. For the past six months we’ve had to clean the litter box every single day because she pisses so much and the litter becomes unusable.

She’s about 12/13 years old and is quite the little bitch. Doesn’t play with the kids, only comes out at night, and wakes us up at night because she’s hungry. If we have to put her down, we won’t miss her.

Is she in kidney failure? I believe she is. She’s also losing a lot of weight and is very boney now. Is this something my vet is going to recommend that we treat or is it an automatic “put her down” situation? I don’t want to just come right out and say I want to put her down if this is something a vet would want to treat instead . That said, she’s become too much of a burden while having two young kids.

What do the vets of the OT say?

Do you value the cat or sanitary environment more? Health wise, piss and crap in your environment is not good for you. Your choice.

That’s what I’ve been telling my wife for months. This is becoming a health issue for us with how unsanitary she’s making things.

I know what I’d do. But I’m quite cold hearted and really don’t like cats anyway.

Take em out to the barn to live out his final months chasing mice until a hawk gets em.

It could be something as simple as a UTI
If you explain to the vet that she’s been having trouble for awhile, no longer eating & you do not want to put her through having tests run & meds shoved down her throat at her age I’m sure they will understand

Why do you have her?

Sounds like it’s time to end this chapter.

Holding the cat under water for 7 minutes will cure that.

Not really. I am allergic to cats, so I'm not a big fan. If this is your pet that makes you happy, then good luck finding a solution.

Our 18 yo cat did a lot of this - meowed loudly almost like wailing and peed a lot - we had to put her down a few months ago - old age is a bitch - Mother Nature always wins

You don't do this every day as it is? I think we do it twice. Well, Jones does.

That said, we knew it was time for our 19 year old cat to go when she couldn't make it to the litter box anymore. Yours is an age where it is probably an illness versus old age, but it may be an illness not able to be treated.. or it might be a simple UTI. I'd for sure go to the vet first.

If the vet does advise putting her down.. There's a wonderful girl here in BR that will come do it in their favorite comfy spot in the privacy of your home, and it was the same price we paid to take our other cat who had an emergency and only needed to be taken from us/cremated (had already died) at the vet.

Take her to the Vet and see what they say. There comes a time you have to put them down. Could be an infection the Vet can treat, otherwise time to let go.

Normally we’d do it once every other day. It didn’t stink until day three .

And to those asking why we have her… it was a stupid spur of the moment decision to keep her when she walked up to us right after we got married. If I could go back in time…

The cat is obviously trying to tell you something. I would take her to the vet to see if it is something that they/you can treat. We went through this with our cat when she was about 12 and now she is 17 and still kicking and happy.

You would have only kept the cat?

Not a vet…had a similar situation w a cat and found out he had cancer in his bladder. As I recall, was causing issues w him being able to control when he peed, and some movements would irritate it and cause him to piss on the spot.

Current cat is 17 and her issues is the beginning of kidney problems but is treated w diet change and more recently a thyroid issue treated w a cream we put in her ear. But she at least pisses at the litter box, just on the floor right outside of it
